As an immigrant, I often find myself in the space between two worlds—one where I was born and one where I live. I left India for a better, safer life, but the truth is, a part of me never left. It lingers in the memory of my grandmother’s sweet ginger chai or the feel of my mother’s soft cotton saris draped over me as I napped, the world around me simple and safe.
In my new life, I have everything I once dreamed of, and yet… a hollowness remains. The piece of me that stayed behind remembers my carefree childhood and adolescence, a barrel full of dreams. Still, it also bears witness to the suffering I ignored, inflicted on those less fortunate than me—the people, the animals—and those whose lives I overlooked.
This is why my heart aches for those whose cries go unheard. I am an animal rights activist today because I cannot ignore that suffering.
Recently, my dear friend Sunitha, who runs a sanctuary near Madurai, Tamil Nadu, rescued a horse and a donkey from unimaginable conditions. These poor creatures now desperately need care, love, and nourishment.
I humbly ask—will you join me in helping this gentle soul heal? A small donation could mean the world to her recovery. Your kindness would not only feed her body but restore her spirit. For that, I would be forever grateful.
Since Facebook no longer allows personal fundraisers, you can Venmo me -Bhagwate or PayPal me @gmail.com. I am trying to raise at least $250 for her!
