Entry 17: 19th December 2025

Back in 1947, my grandfather, Jimmy Heredia, saw a piece of land that later became Fernandes Wadi. The story spans two independence struggles. The independence of India and that of Goa. He waited for the British to leave so he could pay tax to government of independent India. But his heart was in Goa which the Portuguese still dominated. He and his friends set up the Goa Liberation front which worked closely with the Indian government to bring Goa back into India fold. 

This resulted in him loosing his title as Hon Consul to Brazil and Bolivia, the family lands in Goa and banishment from the state he loved most - Goa. But India never forgot his sacrifice and made him Sheriff of Mumbai (Bombay back then). And he recreated his memories of Goa here at the Wadi!

Today is Liberation Day in Goa. So please join us in celebrating the sacrifices made by many Goans like him to enjoy what we have today! Drop a heart in the comments!
