MAJOR UPDATE | BMC HAS OFFICIALLY WRITTEN TO MUMBAI UNIVERSITY 🐾

A significant development has taken place in the Mumbai University community dog-feeding matter.

The BMC Veterinary Department (Dog Control Department) has now officially issued a letter to the University of Mumbai regarding the feeding and welfare of community dogs on the Kalina campus.

Most importantly, the letter clearly states that persons providing food to the dogs should not be prevented from entering the university premises or from feeding the dogs, while ensuring compliance with the applicable ABC Rules, 2023 and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

The BMC communication also refers to the Supreme Court’s directions concerning institutional areas and the need for responsible management of community dogs, including sterilisation, vaccination and appropriate welfare measures.

What this means for Mumbai University:

🐾 Community dogs should not simply be removed or relocated.

🍲 Feeders should not be prohibited from feeding the dogs, subject to proper regulation and compliance with the applicable rules.

📍 Proper feeding arrangements/spots and responsible feeding practices should be implemented.

💉 Sterilisation and vaccination of the community dogs must continue.

🤝 The focus should be on responsible coexistence, animal welfare and campus safety, rather than stopping feeding altogether.

This letter from BMC is an important step forward and strengthens the efforts towards a practical, lawful and humane solution at Mumbai University.

We will continue working with the university authorities and concerned departments to ensure that the agreed measures are implemented properly and that the welfare of both students and community animals is protected.

She is sweet, playful, and full of love — and now she deserves a forever family who will never abandon her again. 🏡❤️

Sheru — A New Beginning After An Unimaginable Loss 🐾❤️

Some stories are too painful to put into words.

Sheru lost the three people who were his entire world — the family he knew, loved and trusted. We can never truly know what must have been going through his heart when he was left alone in that home, waiting for the people who would never return. 💔

But today, there is one small reason to breathe a little easier.

While efforts were being made to rescue Sheru, RAKSHAK 🛡️ GUARDIANS OF ANIMALS also stepped in to ensure that he would not simply be taken away and left in an unfamiliar place. Under the guidance of our National President Vijay Rangare Ji, our National Core Team Member and Madhya Pradesh State President Rakshak Azeem Qureshi connected with animal welfare members in Sambhajinagar and requested that the matter be taken up immediately.

With the efforts of Suchita Patil Ji and Shailesh Mane Ji, a way was found to give Sheru something far more precious than just shelter — a family.

When the option arose to hand Sheru over to the corporation, Shailesh Mane Ji came forward without wasting a moment and offered to adopt him into his own family.

And today, Sheru is no longer alone. 🐾❤️

He is now safe, loved and living with Shailesh Mane Ji and his family — not as a rescued animal, but as a member of their family.

Our heartfelt gratitude to every person, animal lover and organisation who tried to protect Sheru and stood by him during this difficult time.

And a very special thank you to Shailesh Mane Ji — for opening not only the doors of his home, but also the doors of his heart to Sheru when he needed it the most.

May Sheru's new family help heal the silence left behind by the family he lost.

May the souls of the three departed members of his former family rest in peace. 🕊️

And may Sheru's new journey be filled with love, safety, warmth and countless happy days.

You have lost your old world, Sheru… but you are not alone anymore.
