Not every addition to the Japalouppe pack is planned. Some just slowly find their way into your life until one day, you realise they’ve become part of it. That for us, was Brandi 🤎

A few months ago, Brandi was found abandoned on the streets with a large maggot wound. She was rescued by Dr. Anisha one of our older students, who treated her and helped her recover.

Over time, Brandi healed beautifully. Her wound closed up, her energy returned and very quickly her personality started showing up too.

She spent a few months in foster care while looked for a forever home, but no success.

Eventually, Anisha approached Dada about this wildly energetic, ridiculously loving dog who just needed someone to give her a chance.

Now, we already have a full house here at the farm. And Julie, well, Julie runs this place!
So Brandi came in on a trial

It took us some time to introduce her to the pack and help her socialise with them. Over time, Julie made sure she knew her place a few times.

But Brandi kind of just fit herself in. She adjusted to the rhythm of the farm, the dogs, the people, the chaos.

And slowly, without anyone officially deciding it, she became part of the pack.

Now she spends most of her days doing one of two things:

1. Playing fetch with an intensity that genuinely concerns us 🥎
2. Looking for the dirtiest possible water source to throw herself into 💦

And when we say dirty water, we mean DIRTY water!
Clean pond? Amazing 👌
Muddy puddle? Even better 🤙
Suspicious gutter water on the side of the road? Jackpot 🤌

And quietly, Brandi became part of the pack. One look at her and you can tell she’s just happy to finally belong 🤎

For us, each camp is about getting the mix right of campers✨ Here’s a little behind the scenes of how we plan it 👇

Every camp is thoughtfully put together with riders across all levels - some are hopping into the saddle for the very first time, others come back like it’s a yearly ritual (Some have quite literally grown up here 🥹)

We also work within separate dorm capacities for boys and girls, which means availability isn’t just about how many spots are left but who those spots are best suited for across levels and groups

And this year around the girl gang has really shown up 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️ So at the moment, we’ve got more open spots for boys!💁‍♂️

In a world where food just appears on a plate, we like take campers back to where it actually begins 🌱

Every camp, we have a tour through .japalouppe 's garden where she walks them through the plant beds, harvesting vegetables, smelling fresh herbs and showing them where food actually grows.

We love how quick the curiosity kicks in - they start asking how certain plant grow, what it takes for them to thrive and its life cycle!

We’ve noticed it every single time - that day the campers respect their food more and there’s noticeably less wastage.

And from that day on, we hope that they see the food they eat just seen a little differently 💚

No LPG. No problem. 🔥😇

The recent Middle East conflict and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz led to an LPG shortage across India, leaving many small businesses dealing with uncertainty, rising costs and halting operations

But at Japalouppe, something unexpected happened.

A few months earlier, we had started experimenting with a small sustainability initiative - Recycling farm waste and horse dung into fuel pellets.

After a lot of trial and error, we had just gotten the machine working before all of this hit. So when LPG became scarce, the team stepped in and improvised in true jugaad fashion

We built a smokeless chulha powered by these pellets and also a traditional chulha, fuelled entirely by organic waste from the farm, fallen branches, pruned trees, waste cardboard etc

And we kept going! Same number of campers, same picnickers. Same rhythm. Nothing slowed down. 🚀

What started as a small sustainability experiment became a system of resilience allowing us to operate independently during a fuel crisis, using resources we already had 🍃

And even as things begin to stabilise, we're no longer looking at this as a temporary fix, but as a long term way to reduce our dependence on gas.

It’s a step towards something more self-sufficient, more circular and more rooted in how we want to live and run Japalouppe ♻️💙
