Feline Panleukopenia, commonly referred to as “parvo” in cats, is a highly contagious and life-threatening viral disease caused by the feline parvovirus. It primarily affects rapidly dividing cells in the body, including those in the bone marrow, intestines, and lymphoid tissues. This leads to a severe drop in white blood cells (panleukopenia), making the cat extremely vulnerable to secondary infections.

How Parvo Affects Cats:-
Cats infected with panleukopenia often present with:

•Severe lethargy and weakness.
•Loss of appetite (anorexia).
•Vomiting and persistent diarrhea (often bloody).
•Dehydration.
•Sudden high fever followed by a dangerous drop in body temperature.

As the disease progresses, the immune system becomes critically compromised, and the body loses its ability to regulate temperature effectively.

Hypothermia in Parvo-Infected Cats:-
Hypothermia is a serious and often late-stage complication in cats suffering from parvovirus. Instead of maintaining a normal body temperature (around 38–39°C / 100.4–102.5°F), affected cats may experience a drastic drop.
Why Hypothermia Occurs,
•Severe dehydration and fluid loss.
•Septic shock due to secondary bacterial infections.
•Weak metabolism and energy depletion.
•Poor circulation and organ failure.

Clinical Signs of Hypothermia:-
•Cold ears, paws, and body.
•Shivering (may stop in severe cases).
•Slow heart rate and weak pulse.
•Extreme lethargy or unresponsiveness.
•Collapse.

The combination of parvovirus and hypothermia carries a guarded to poor prognosis, particularly if treatment is delayed. However, with timely veterinary care and constant monitoring, many cats can recover.

Vaccination is the most effective protection against feline panleukopenia.

Meet Dabbu 🐾.
Dabbu was presented to us with persistent vomiting and severe weakness. He had completely stopped eating and drinking, was extremely lethargic, and had already undergone treatment elsewhere without any improvement.
On presentation, he was febrile, depressed, and had no appetite at all. Considering the severity of his condition, we proceeded with a complete diagnostic workup, including detailed investigations and blood tests. After proper investigations he was diagnosed with FPV (FELINE PARVO VIRUS).
Parvo is a life-threatening viral infection that requires immediate and intensive care. We immediately started treatment, including IV fluids, injectable medications, supportive therapy, and continuous monitoring.
Alhamdulillah, with timely intervention and dedicated care, he has made a remarkable recovery. Today, he is stable, active, and doing much better.
This case is a reminder that early diagnosis, proper investigations, and intensive supportive treatment can save lives. If your pet shows signs like vomiting, lethargy, fever, or loss of appetite, seek veterinary care immediately.
Stay aware. Stay proactive. Protect your pets. 🐾

This Persian cat was badly injured after a fight with a stray cat. Cat fights can cause deep wounds, abscesses, and dangerous infections.
No matter the breed—stray, rescued, or Persian—please keep your cats indoors to ensure their safety and well-being.
