When we are working with a reactive dog (guard dog) we first look at all of the behaviours that the family calls reactive and then also understand the dogs perspective- whether the behaviour is normal for the breed, whether the dog has appropriate exercise and sleep schedules and whether the ‘reactivity’ is coming in the way of the dog and community living a healthy lifestyle

In Rocky’s case, it’s absolutely normal for an adult GSD to take time to befriend new people and we will work towards building a system through which the family can slowly get him acquainted with new staff at home

When it comes to his barking and lunging during walks, we will do a mix of setting up a good exercise routine and walk training with treats to shift his focus from the world outside to the handler

The L.E.G.S course by Kim Brophey gave me a lot of insight into how dogs as a specie has evolved over centuries and what factors shape their behaviour.
All the great information and insight from that course coupled with having my own dogs to experiment with and being in a space where i could afford to have my dogs off leash helped me learn so much more about interactions that happen between dogs on a daily basis

Now, walk time with my dogs is as mentally stimulating for me as them.. I’m learning so much about the why dogs growl,bark,chase, and how to peace things out when it happens :)

Forever grateful for all the mad dog lovers out there who are constantly working towards understanding dogs and sharing the information for all of us to get better at understanding and raising our dogs :)

Dogs need to step out and get exposure just like we do
It makes them happier and calmer :)
When you really get involved in your dogs walks you realise there are so many little details in the walk that make them happy and nourish their soul daily!

In her defence, i was eating chicken momos and she really wanted a bite
And of course she got one small bite towards the end cause it was steamed momos :)

Well behaved beagles are a result of loving and sometimes frustrating yet somehow calm repetitions

Notice how his body and face are completely relaxed while training
He looks comfortable and alert while training - physically and mentally
No pressure, only happily responding because he knows he’s loved and understood:)

We always work towards understanding dogs more than training them
Slowing down and noticing why they are doing what they are doing helps me realize dogs need us as much as we need them which in turn helps me build a more trusting bond with them

I’d done a course by Kim Brophey recently and learnt that if a dog fights, they could get injured and without medication that snowballs into serious health problems (maggots, infections etc) so dogs usually avoid fights which made absolute sense to me
That insight has helped me so much in my work :)

Easiest way to succeed at toilet training puppies is to start as soon as they come home with this method.
I promise you it’ll make things atleast 50% easier :)
