About emu
Emu is an Australian bird. On an average it grows up to 6ft and weighs 45 to 55 Kgs. Emu meat has high content of proteins in it and is 98% fat free too. American Doctor's recommend this Emu meat for diabetic and heart patients. Emu oil is extracted from the bird, this oil has many medicinal properties. It can be used for treating more than 105 different skin ailments, burns and joint pains etc
Emu oil is widely used in pharmaceutical companies. It's feathers, toe nails and skin are used widely in the fashion industry. In this way the entire bird is of use to man and there is absolutely no waste from it. Currently we're focusing on growing the population of the bird.
Emu oil
So far we are operating as breeders. Really we haven't started yet slaughtering birds for meat. But being said, we do kill time to time our handicapped and genetically weak birds to avoid the hereditary problems acuter in future. From these birds we do get enough meat and sufficient oil every year.Emu Fat- Oil contains rich vitamin E, Omega 3 , Omega 6 and Omega 9. Because Emu Oil has the same density of human oil, it penetrates very fast in human skins. Internationally the scientist believes the Emu oil is one of the most exciting and vital products generated from the fat of an Emu. Emu oil can be used for Arthritis, Muscle and joint injuries and pain. It is commonly used for inflammation of the joints, burn pain and scaring, but above all as an anti-aging cream in many modern cosmetic fields. From one adult bird we can extract 4 to 5 litters of oil. The oil price is at present Rs.5,000 to Rs.6,000 per litter.(Prices are subject to change)
Emu oil is a medicine widely using for diseases, like:-

and using for making cosmetics.
Emu leather
Its soft skin is used for making all sorts of leather goods like calf's leather. Because of its flexibility and durability it can be used for making fancy leather dresses, very soft gloves, shoes, light briefcases, beautiful ladies handbags and wallets.
Emu Egg shell
Their attractive and hard eggshells are utilized for making decorative delicate lampshades jewel box, clocks and various kinds of handy crafts. Hand painted colorful shells are very popular in the west as well as in the east. It is becoming as fashion or belief: Having these painted egg shells in the house brings prosperity and wealth.
The advantages of having Emu farms
Having Emu farm is less labour - oriented work. It won't cost even an hour per day to take of a group of ten pairs of Emus. These domesticated flightless Emus are very friendly with human. Certainly, the worlds second largest bird consumes maximum of 1 Kg food and 3 liters of water per day is economically a good news for farmers.There wont be any foul smell or any flies around these birds. means they are definitely environmental friendly. You never get complaints from your neighbors like other living stocks. We don't have to worry about enemies like snakes, wolfs or dogs. They don't dare to attack these birds. Their immune system is very high, so they are not going to be affected by any serious disease caused by a simple virus so easily. For today's Indian farmers Emu farming offers an alternative cash crop. With minimum investment in facilities and land area, excellent feed conversion ratio, the Emu will provide a stable cash return to its owners now and in the years to come.
Emu's Behavior
Emus eat all sorts of grains, fruits, seeds, growing shoots of plants, insects. We can distinguish the female bird from a male by their shape and making different sounds like booming, drumming and grunting. Emus like to play in water and they are good swimmers. They love to sit ingrain. These flightless birds are strong runner, reaching speed of up to 60 Km per hour. These social animals are always happy, when they stay together. Keeping just one pair in the cage like circus animals, the birds might lose their appetite and the number of eggs could be reduced drastically.
Breeding
The birds reaches maturity at the age of 18 months. A maturity Emu could be 5 to 6 feet tall and normally weights 45 to 55 kilos. The female birds may lays her eggs from October to April. She dominates the male during pair formation. Normally egg lying begins at the age of two. Every two days once in the evening they lay eggs. The egg weight is normally 600 grs to 800 grs and dark green in colour. The Emu hen can be productive for 30 to 35 years or more and may lay 30 to 50 eggs in a year. Incubation time is 45 to 52 days and the percentage of eggs hatched is approximately 80 - 90%. Chick survival rates are excellent. Emus are very hardy. The emerald green egg produces a chick that will walk within hours and run within days. Emus are about 10 inches tall a birth, with black and white stripes.
Emu meat
Emu-meat is Red in colour. It is 98% cholesterol free and low in calories. Nutritionist recommended this Emu meat even for heart patients' worldwide. Emu meat has the texture and taste of red meat like goat, lamp or beef, contains no fat but is rich in protein, because of these reasons the meat is getting more popular and in demand. Last six years in India we are developing these birds for breeding purpose only, not for the meat purpose, because the number of birds we are not enough for slaughtering.The meat price is at present Rs.400 to Rs.600 per kg.(Prices are subject to change)
