Does your cat know when it’s treat o’clock? 😂
Yoda doesn’t. And honestly, I quite like it that way.
When I adopted her, there were hardly any cat treat brands around, so she never really learnt the whole concept of treat time. Even now, she has absolutely no idea what to do with creamy treats. I have to put some on my finger so she can “taste test” it first, and then she gives me a look like, okay… I guess this isn’t too bad. 😂
We usually give her a treat after something she doesn’t particularly enjoy, like ear cleaning or deworming, rather than making it a daily routine.
Cats are creatures of habit and learn patterns very quickly. Food is also a powerful reinforcer, so when treats become predictable, they can start expecting them and making sure you know when you’ve missed treat o’clock. 😂
That doesn’t mean treats are bad! They can be great for positive reinforcement, enrichment and creating positive associations. But they’re still extras, and ideally should make up less than 10% of your cat’s daily calories. For me, the goal isn’t to make Yoda obsessed with treats. It’s to make them useful when she needs a little extra motivation. 💜🌼🐈🐟💜✨
