Apart from light which is the other component that enables healthy plant growth in an aquarium?

You guessed it right, substrate (soil as a medium where most plant anchor themselves for support and nutrients).

There are various options available in the market from the cheapest like river gravel (40 rs per kg) to the ADA Amazonia Soil ( *2400 rs for a 9 ltr bag = approx7kg
* price may vary with location) is far more expensive compared to the earlier option.

Each substrate has its own benefits, but if you need your plants to grow healthy and vibrant you need to select a substrate which has good amount of nutrients, which allows plant roots to breathe and can home useful micro organisms.
There are hundreds if not thousand options available in these categories.

Light is made up of several individual spectrums (to simplify we can call threads of various lights). Usually we know sunlight as creamish yellow light and tubelight as white light.
But when this light is studied further several spectrums like red, blue, green can be separated or identified( there are few others as well but we will highlight only these since they form the major component of the useful light spectrum in our hobby).

Each one of these RGB spectrum has an individual effect on plant growth. We will discuss in details about this gradually.
This useful light is available through several mediums like halides, cfl tubes or bulbs, leds etc. Again each having their own advantages and disadvantages.

The current trend seen is inclined more towards led lights or cob lights. They are told to be more efficient and cost effective compared to others in a long run.

As plants growing on land require light to grow, similarly aquarium plants require lights for healthy growth.
Apart from CO2, light is the other important component required by plants to produce food( this process is called as photosynthesis).
Every plant has varied light requirements, some require less light others require strong light. There are various sources of light you can use in your aquarium, each having their own pros and cons.

The topic of light required and types of light in a planted aquarium is vast. There would be volumes of information on the net, we will also try to discuss about light in our following interactions :)

Did you know that all plants require light and CO2 for photosynthesis. The quantity and intensity may vary, but these two elements are a must for healthy growth of plants.
Aquarium plants being submerged, mostly have a limited supply of CO2 which is dissolved in water. Hence we need an external CO2 source to fulfill this requirement.
