PROPER WAY TO PICK UP A PUPPY

19/06/2026

Food refusal training is one of the most important skills a puppy can learn. It teaches the puppy to ignore food offered by strangers, avoid picking up unsafe items from the ground, and develop better impulse control. A well-trained puppy learns that not every piece of food is theirs to take, helping keep them safe and building stronger self-discipline for real-life situations.

Kutush, a 3-month-old Golden Retriever puppy training at Simons Canine Club, is learning impulse control for the very first time..and he is doing an excellent job!

Even with distractions around him and the door left open, Kutush is actively choosing to remain calm and stay in position instead of rushing out. This is an important life skill that helps puppies develop self-control, patience, and better decision-making.

In dog training, once a behavior is learned, we begin introducing real-life challenges and distractions to ensure the dog can perform reliably in different situations. This process is known as proofing.

What makes Kutush especially impressive is how quickly he is learning. Despite this being his very first impulse control session, he was already able to manage his excitement and make the right choices. A fantastic start for this young pup, and we look forward to watching his progress!
