For the last 10 years, DOGGO has been building something that is still relatively new in India: a structured, service-led ecosystem for the pet sector.
Services are an integral part of any economy. They create employment, generate revenue, solve real-life problems, support other businesses, and build sustainable ecosystems. The pet industry is no different.

Animal welfare is not an occasional initiative or a separate department at DOGGO. It is woven into the foundation of what we do. From assisting strays and injured animals to helping pet parents make informed, responsible decisions, welfare has always been an integral part of our journey.

Friska, my OG Girl. ❤️

9th September, 1999.

Long Post Alert. Because some stories are too important to be shortened.

How it all started!

We were staying in Howrah then, while the rest of our family lived in the village. We used to have two Major Kali Pujos — one during Bhadra Mash and another during Kartik.

And on this day, I lost my first friend.

My first real memory of life has her in it.

I remember opening my eyes as a little child and finding her beside me, wrapped in a green shawl. I remember reaching out, hugging her, curling up next to her tummy and falling asleep.

The way puppies sleep beside their mothers.

I think, in many ways, she was my first safe place.

And then she became my protector.

We lived in the village, and she was my constant companion. I played with her, ran around with her, watched her being trained, went to shows with her and watched her win prizes.

And no, she was never bred.

She was never meant to be anything other than my best friend.

That village, those days, those endless hours with her — they were the kind of childhood memories that quietly become the foundation of who you are.

Then we shifted to Howrah.

First house. Second house.

Friska was there.

She grew older. And unfortunately, back then, Howrah simply didn't have the veterinary infrastructure we have today. She used to get her annual vaccinations and veterinary check-ups from a clinic in Lansdowne.

Once, we had to travel to Puri and had no choice but to leave her at a boarding facility.

A truly horrible one.

I remember crying when we left her there.

Dad was heartbroken too.

When we brought her back, she fell sick.

She never completely recovered.

And then, one day, she left.

9th September.

I had to go to school because I had a bloody unit test.

I was eight.

I cried through the entire school day.

I was already struggling with my first year of transition from a completely Bengali-medium school to an English-medium one, and while everyone around me was laughing and carrying on, I was sitting there crying because my dog had died.

Who cries for a dog?

Apparently, this little eight-year-old did.

I came home to an empty house.

But there wasn't even time to properly grieve.

We had to leave for our village house for Kali Pujo.

If we travelled by local train, we'd get down at Khanyan and take a rickshaw to our home in Hoyera village. The journey was through dark roads, fields on either side of the station road, and then those enormous trees lining the GT Road.

That day, as the rickshaw started moving, I saw her.

Friska.

Running behind me through the fields.

Like a shadow.

I got goosebumps.

Even after all these years, I don't know how to explain what I felt in that moment.

I only knew that she hadn't left me.

She was showing me the way.

That evening, during Arati, and later when the Puja at our house was over, something inside that eight-year-old me changed forever.

I realised that dogs would shape the direction of my life.

That they would keep showing me the way.

Always.

And it was a Thursday. :')

I was only eight years old.

But somewhere, somehow, I had already made a promise.

Years later, in August — the month when Buchkan left — I started DOGGO.

And sometimes I wonder if Friska had been preparing me for it all along.

Maybe I didn't choose this life.

Maybe she chose it for me.

My first friend.
My first protector.

Friska, thank you for coming into my life.

Thank you for finding me when I was so little.

Thank you for loving me, protecting me, teaching me and, perhaps most importantly, showing me the direction.

Until the day I finally go to sleep and wake up beside you all, I'll stay here.

Doing what you taught me to do.

Taking care of your friends down here on Earth.

For you, my OG Girl.

For all the ones who came after you.

And for every dog who still needs someone to find their way home.

I love you.

I always have.

I always will.

If one actually took the time to understand a dog’s skin texture, pores, sweat glands, and the importance of proper fur spacing and airflow, one wouldn’t dare put such flimsy materials & accesories on dogs—especially during the humid Indian summer.

In a country where skin issues are already so common among dogs, trapping heat and moisture against their skin in the name of fashion or “cuteness” is simply irresponsible.

Humanisation at its WORST.

I’m so grateful that, from early childhood, my parents introduced me to you, Steve Irwin.

I grew up learning about dogs from my Father, while watching you rescue and care for wild animals on television, alongside Bindi and Robert. And somehow, we were doing our own little version of the same thing.

As a child, I would spend my days wandering around our village, bringing home little animals and injured puppies I found along the way, trying to rescue them and care for them. Then I would watch you doing exactly what I dreamed of doing someday — rescuing animals.

I would constantly ask my Father, “When will I go there? When will I meet him?”

And Babai would simply say, “When you grow up, you’ll go.”

Then, one fine morning, everything changed.

You were gone.

But the path you put me on never changed. I grew up to rescue and save animals too — domesticated ones, in my own little corner of the world.

Thank you for teaching me that there is no other way to be with animals than to be kind — and that, no matter what, we must stay true to our path.

Twenty years later, I still think of that little child who wanted nothing more than to meet you someday — the same child who spent months crying after you were gone, carrying an emptiness she couldn’t quite understand.

Thank you, Steve Irwin.
Forever.❤️

🐾 Some Important Reminders for Our Pet Parents

At DOGGO, we understand that your dog isn't just a dog. They're a beloved member of your family — and when you leave them with us, we take that responsibility seriously.

A few things we'd like our Pet Parents to keep in mind:

🐶 DOGGO provides a home-based boarding service.
Your pet stays in a safe, clean and hygienic home environment under the supervision of our team.

🤝 Please extend basic courtesy and respect to our team.
Kindness costs nothing — and it makes everyone's experience better.

👩‍💼 DOGGO is overseen by our dedicated Founder, Risha, along with a competent team handling the day-to-day care of the pets entrusted to us.

👴 DOGGO is a family-based Pet Service Venture.
Mr. Chatterjee, a senior citizen and a part of the DOGGO family, also contributes to our boarding operations with his years of hands-on experience.

🐾 DOGGO has been providing pet-related services for the last 10 years.
This isn't something we started yesterday. There is experience, responsibility and considerable work behind the service you receive.

🧹 Yes, we clean p**p and p*e.
Because we maintain a clean, safe and hygienic environment, cleaning up after the pets is naturally part of the job. It is a service, not something to be treated as though we're doing it for free as a favour.

💰 And yes, we charge a boarding fee.
That fee isn't simply for "keeping an eye on a dog."

You're paying for care, supervision, hygiene, cleaning, infrastructure, responsibility, time and the overall boarding service provided by DOGGO.
It's the complete service package!!

It's 2026. 😄

A professional boarding service is an ecosystem of services, not simply:

> "Kukur dekhe rakhe, tai taka di." 😅

We love the dogs.
We care for them.
We clean after them.
We worry about them.
We keep them safe.

And yes — this is also our profession and our life.

So, a little understanding and a little courtesy towards the people doing all of this goes a long way. 🐾

Thank you for choosing DOGGO.
10 years of Trust.

Important Notice

DOGGO will no longer be accepting long-term boarding or relocation cases involving pet parents who are relocating to another country without an established source of income or independent financial stability.

This includes cases where the pet parent is dependent on family support while studying, seeking employment, or establishing themselves abroad.

This decision has been made to protect DOGGO from being used as a dumping ground in situations where the long-term responsibility for a pet may become uncertain, and to ensure that we can continue providing proper care and attention to the pets genuinely entrusted to us.

With my academic background, I could have taken a very different path after 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲. But I always knew what I wanted to do.
In fact, even during my first year at college, I tried to start something like DOGGO. I didn’t get permission to do it at my own home, so I even went looking at another house. I remember going there, trying to make it happen.

My partner, who has known me since 2011, helped me with the paperwork and a part of the advance. The house belonged to someone from the Armed Forces.

It didn’t work out then.

𝐒𝐨, 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐝, 𝐈 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐎𝐆𝐆𝐎.
𝐀𝐭 𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞.

I started taking care of other people’s Dogs as I would take care of my own. With the experience I had gained from being around Dogs since I was a toddler, I would notice when something seemed abnormal and tell the parents. I still do.

The equation was always simple:
I provide a service for someone’s beloved Pet.
They pay me for that service.

And 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆, 𝗜 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗗𝗼𝗴𝘀.

That's me.

My idol and my role model has always been my grandfather, 𝐋𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐃𝐫. 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐣𝐞𝐞, 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐌𝐋𝐀 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐚 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞.

He could have chosen a very different life.

Instead, he left the city and went back to the village to serve the people there.
I remember accompanying him on some of his house visits. He knew there would be plenty of farm animals and Dogs around, and he would take me along because he knew I would enjoy being around them.

That man taught me what selflessness really means.

He also taught me, perhaps more importantly, how real the world is.

And, unfortunately, these can become the most dangerous situations.

Over the last few years, I have been in a constant state of stress and panic because of irresponsible and exploitative Pet Parents.
