Safe House For Animals

Directions

We're committed towards helping animals in distress by rescuing, feeding & rehabilitating them.

Safe House For Animals is a dedicated rescue and rehabilitation shelter service providing safe and healthy spaces for treatment and care of animals that are diseased, abandoned, mistreated, neglected and are often dumped on the streets to fend for themselves or are left to die of misery or old-age. SHFA takes responsibility for the good health and dignity of all such animals that are brought to its shelter by SHFA volunteers and animal lovers. Currently SHFA supports around 115 residential animals, primarily dogs and cows under its care. Our Out Patient Department (OPD) also gives free medical treatment to any injured or distressed animal, including birds, that are brought to its shelter. The shelter also houses many puppies whose parents were run over and killed along with calves abandoned at birth since they are of no economical value to humans. As an everyday routine, SHFA shelter service feeds more than 160 street dogs in Gurgaon (Haryana) and 50 street dogs in Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh). Owing to increasing urbanism, our cities are teeming with distressed animals. A service like SHFA is much needed for our cities to become humane, livable, fostering empathy, compassion and coexistence between people and animals. This 'service before self' ecosystem of nurturing and caring at our shelters has resulted in an increase in the number of animals that come here in emergencies and are in dire need of help. Thus, there is an urgent need for an uncommon service like SHFA to be up-scaled and made sustainable.

🐾 9 Little Lives. One Chance to Give Them a Healthy Start. ❤️

These little ones didn’t have an easy beginning.

We recently rescued 2 mothers and their 9 puppies from the Gurgaon Court area, where they were being chased by other dogs and were absolutely terrified. Today, they’re safe with us, getting food, care, love, and the chance to simply be puppies. 🐶❤️

But there’s still more to do.

We’re raising ₹15,000 to cover the first-year vaccinations for all 9 pups and help give them the healthy future they deserve.

Every donation, big or small, brings us a little closer to that goal. And if you’re unable to donate, sharing this post can be just as valuable, it might reach someone who can help.

📞 To donate: 9958462494

Please donate if you can.
Please share if you can’t.
Either way, you’re helping give them a voice. 🐾❤️

🐾 A little thank-you from some very happy tails! 🤎

A huge shoutout to SDRF: Street Dog Rescue Foundation for showing up for the street dogs of Gurgaon, with food, sterilisation, fundraising, medical care, and so much love. 🐶✨

From helping us with regular feeding to supporting critical cases, you’ve been there when these dogs needed it most. One little pup even needed multiple surgeries after suffering severe injuries to his legs, and with your support, we were able to raise around ₹35,000 towards his treatment. 🥹🤎

So from Safe House for Animals and all the wagging tails here, THANK YOU! 🐕🐕‍🦺🐾
For every meal, every rescue, every treatment and every second chance. 🫶🏻

You help, they heal. You care, they get another chance. 🤎

The temperature is dropping, and for street dogs, winter is a fight for survival.

They face biting cold, frostbite, and struggle to find adequate shelter and food to generate body heat.

Three Ways You Can Be Their Lifeline:
Warmth: Provide old blankets, jute sacks, or build simple, raised shelters near your home/workplace.

Food: A simple, warm meal (like rice and chicken broth) can give them the energy they desperately need to fight the cold.

Report: If you see a dog in distress or severely injured, contact your local animal rescue organization immediately.

Every small act of kindness is a shield against the cold.

Forget the streets, these are the golden days! 🐾✨ Every wag, every lazy sunbath, and every full belly is proof of the love you give. Our Safe House isn't just a shelter—it's a joyful retirement home where they finally get to be dogs.

This is what happiness looks like. Help us keep the joy flowing. 👇

Allowing your dog to lick their wounds can cause an infection, worsen the injury, slow down healing, and create a warm, moist environment ideal for bacteria growth.

Here is something more to it,

To improve your dog's appetite, try adjusting their meal times. Serve food early in the morning and in the evening when it's cooler. To prevent acidity from long gaps between meals, give them a small snack in the afternoon.

Tiny little changes to make with rising temperatures.

Remember the big construction site accident in New Gurgaon in 2017?

Many dogs were hurt, but some kind people saved Jagga and his brother Bhagga. Sadly, Bhagga didn't make it, but brave Jagga was pulled through and now lives at the shelter.

Jagga loves meeting everyone and is a bit of a leader. Even after disagreements with other dogs, he's always friendly. Now, he's the official "doorman" at the shelter, greeting everyone with happy barks and wags.

Share Jagga's story with your friends and family.

Dog noses work best when damp because scent particles stick better to damp surfaces. Plus, wet noses have another advantage. They help keep a dog cool. Dogs dissipate some heat through their foot pads and by panting, but utilize the nasal passages as a cooling mechanism, too.

Learned something new today? Save it & share it with your family and friends:)

Spain stopped giving out a prize for bullfighting.

While Spain has moved towards rejecting animal abuse and promoting animal welfare,Jallikattu continues to be a contentious issue in India, with many arguing that it is an integral part of their cultural tradition.

The ongoing controversy surrounding Jallikattu underscores the need for a more nuanced understanding of cultural practices and their impact on animal welfare.

Yess!

A Cow Needs Gallons of Water to Make Just One Gallon of Milk

They guzzle a whopping 30-50 gallons of water every day to produce just a single gallon of milk. That's because milk itself is about 87% water! But just like us, individual needs can vary depending on their size, diet, and even the weather.

Here's to the importance of water for both cows and humans :)
