On 11th July, 2026, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, along with Hon’ble Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change Shri Jayanta Mallabaruah, Shri M.K. Yadava, IFS (Retd.), Special Chief Secretary, Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Govt. of Assam, Shri Sandeep Kumar, IFS, PCCF & HoFF, Assam, and Shri Vinay Kumar Gupta, IFS, PCCF (Wildlife) reviewed the ongoing Modernization Project of the Assam State Zoo cm Botanical Garden.

During the visit, the Hon’ble Chief Minister inspected the ongoing construction of the Hospital-cum-Rescue Centre, Natural History Museum, and Walk-in Aviary. He reviewed the progress of the works and provided valuable suggestions for further improvements to ensure the facilities meet the highest standards of wildlife conservation, animal welfare, education, and visitor experience.

The modernization project marks a significant step towards transforming the Assam State Zoo into a world-class centre for wildlife conservation, rescue, rehabilitation, research, environmental education, and eco-tourism, reflecting the Government of Assam’s continued commitment to protecting biodiversity and promoting sustainable development.

The Assam State Zoo, Guwahati successfully organized a Tuberculosis (TB) Screening Camp for our dedicated Zoo Keepers on 10th July 2026, in collaboration with the Office of the Joint Director of Health Services, Kamrup Metropolitan. A Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) with a full medical team was deployed at the Zoo premises to conduct on-site screenings for our staff who work tirelessly for the care and management of our wildlife every single day. The screening programme was aimed at facilitating early detection of Tuberculosis and promoting the overall health and well-being of the staff.

Assam State Zoo celebrated World Zoonoses Day on 6th July to raise awareness on diseases that spread between animals and humans.

An interactive session was held for zoo keepers on prevention, hygiene, and early signs of zoonotic diseases. An awareness exhibit for visitors was also set up.

The focus was on "One Health" and safe practices to protect both animals and people.
