The latest BHARCS Blog reflects on Yaya, a calm and balanced street dog. We draw parallels between Yaya’s peaceful state and human struggles with anxiety, questioning what constitutes a superior mind. Position statement on street dogs in India

The International Canine Behaviourists Ltd are dismayed by reports of the removal of street dogs in India. Such actions are not only inhumane but fundamentally contradict evidence-based principles of canine population management and animal welfare.

The forced removal and displacement of street dogs causes extreme stress, suffering, and community disruption, while failing to address the root causes of human–canine coexistence. These practices undermine decades of progress made through humane approaches such as sterilisation, vaccination, and community-led care.

We fully support the vital work being carried out by Sindhoor Pangal and we commend their ongoing efforts, courage and dedication in advocating for the protection and humane treatment of India’s street dogs.

The International Canine Behaviourists Ltd respectfully request the relevant authorities to immediately halt these actions and to adopt compassionate, science-based, and legally compliant strategies that respect both animal welfare and public safety. Cruelty and eradication are not solutions.
