Lovey, a 9 month old Beagle, came to us a month back for the Basic Obedience - Board & Train program. He just graduated and went home a certified good boy :)
You may ask yourself, can my dog be trained at home or would a board and train program be better suited for them?
Well, the answer is not that simple. There are many different factors that come into play here, some of them being;
1. Lack of practice time and structure at home during the initial period of training. During this time, the foundation is built and consistency is KEY.
2. Often times dogs with extreme separation anxiety, resource guarding and sometime even food aggression need to live and train in a neutral place, away from their familiar territory. Keep in mind this is usually true for extreme cases.
3. Aggression cases. Now I want to be clear, aggression is too freely used a term and most people don’t understand what it actually looks like. Keeping that in mind, dog to dog and dog to human aggression sometimes needs an intervention which translates to a board and train programs.
The first step is always to recognise what your dog might be going through, and then consult a behaviourist to see what is required and what best suits the dog.
