It's has been finally found. The most elusive Channa amphibeus. Last seen almost 180 years ago. Found and revalidated and finally know to be not extint by Scientists in India.

Hearty Congratulations to all of them - JAYASIMHAN PRAVEENRAJ, TEJAS THACKERAY
, NALLATHAMBI MOULITHARAN , BALAJI VIJAYAKRISHNAN & GOURAB KUMAR NANDA

This is a great testament not just to the biodiversity that exists but also to what we haven't yet found or lost and never seen again.

Also a great example of how active interest from the aquarium Hobby kept the interest alive in this.

We hope that this doesn't go the Channa barca way, both in terms of exploitation and then the subsequent ban.

Let's be responsible and stay curious to know what's the around us.

We are reminiscing the time when we had these and when they were legal to keep. Also reminiscing a time when fish were deemed endangered for actually being endangered and not because of a personal agenda of some old friends and conservationists.

A ban almost always ensures no one, either traders like us who've also contributed equally to the scientific side of the hobby as some of the big names of Icythology from India albeit silently and from the shadows and neither the Future generations of scientists will ever see these again.

Sad to see a fish found across the state of Kerala be banned rather than fish that may have actually needed or warranted protection from exploitation.

Another set of Videos and Photos from the Habitat of South India's First ever Dario, Dario urops. Also the Habitat of the "Wrongly" classified as Critically Endangered Pterocryptis wynaadensis. These up stream habitats serve as nurseries for younger fish and would ideally be their grow our spots from where they would migrate downstream when they are larger in size and able to survive the numerous predators in the larger rivers.

Leiodon cutcutia, also known as the Red Tail Puffer. A pure freshwater species, these come from the area of North Bengal in India.

Feeding here on live Tubifex Worms, these do best in medium to large aquariums with a good amount of Plant cover

They prefer to eat Frozen pr live food and will do great with addition of Snails in their diet to keep their teeth in check.
