Not all transformations are happy stories… and this one sits heavy on my heart.
We recently completed an apartment common-space redesign.
The final space looked beautiful — but behind the scenes, the journey wasn’t.
As an entrepreneur, one of my biggest strengths (and sometimes my biggest weakness) is this:
✨ I refuse to compromise on quality — even if it costs me.
Very early into this project, I realised that the expected output could not be delivered within the originally agreed scope.
At that point, I had two choices:
1️⃣ Stop at the agreed boundaries
or
2️⃣ Go beyond scope to ensure the client is happy
I chose the second.
We stretched, added more work, more materials, more labour… without clarity on compensation. The intention was pure — to deliver excellence.
But the result?
We lost money on the project.
So here I am, reflecting deeply:
Was this a mistake?
Should I have held my boundaries?
Should I have insisted on revised terms before continuing?
My heart says: “Do good work, always.”
My business mind says: “Honour the scope, protect your team, protect your sustainability.”
This experience reminded me of something important:
💡 Ethics and kindness are strengths.
💡 But boundaries are equally important.
💡 And as entrepreneurs, we must learn to hold both.
I’m still learning.
Still evolving.
Still figuring out how to deliver excellence without abandoning the structure that keeps a business healthy.
Do you think going beyond scope — purely for quality — helps or hurts in the long run?
I’d love to hear your thoughts. 💬
Your experiences, your lessons, your perspective.
