The hardest part of being a dog walker is having to say goodbye one too many times. Yesterday was a sad day, waking up with the news that Barney had crossed the rainbow bridge. Together with Bluebell he was the first member of our dog walking gang and my heart is broken.

Barney was a gentle giant, so sweet, so happy, loved his walks and treats. I adored him so much. Everyone did. Only Wednesday I was with him, spending some time under the trees and feeling the breeze. If I knew that would be our last time together I would have stayed longer, give him more kisses on the head and double up on the treats.

He loved seeing his friends, my dogs Coco and Chai and he had a soft spot for Poppy, I occasionally called her his girlfriend. The fact is that Barney had many girl dogs and I think he loved that.

He didn’t have a good start in life but found the most amazing family that loved him and gave him the second chance he deserved. Sending love to Sarah, Molly and Saffron.

The first picture is from one of our first walks, five years ago. I feel so lucky to have crossed paths with him and it was a honour to be his dog walker.

I miss you Barney. You will live in our hearts forever.
