A very good description of why close clipping is sadly sometimes necessary for the welfare of the dogs brought to groomers. I always try my best to trim the fur and hair on my clients dog's as long as the client wants but sadly, even I, see my fair share of pelted coats.

NATIONAL PET AWARDS NOMINATED!!!!!!!!

Earlier in the week I was contacted by the organisers of The National Pet Awards 2026 to let me know that my business, Groom With A View, was nominated for salon based groomer of the year.

I have been nominated in the years gone by but this time I have had 5 separate clients nominate me so felt I had to write a post.

Firstly thank you so so much for the nominations and appreciation for my work and my business. Believe me it is my pleasure to groom your dogs and keep them feeling and looking special.

However, please let me explain exactly how this competition works. Firstly you are contacted if nominated and tickets cost €195 per person, the hotel stay is extra, €165, plus diesel to Dublin etc etc. While I have no doubt i could get the votes I do not think it would be any great benefit to my business, even if I were to win etc. I honestly feel that the money would be better spent on new equipment and other improvements to my business.

At some stage I may enter an actual grooming competition and pit my skills against some of the world class groomers in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Winning or even getting placed would be an incredible achievement.

I wish the groomers of Connacht the very best of luck in the competition.

Hi everyone, I am currently booked up for 2 weeks in advance Thank you to all of my wonderful clients and their dogs. Sadly, due to the passing of several of my regular dogs due to old age, I am accepting new clients. I do all breeds of dog up to 20kgs approximately in weight, so sadly I don't do many of the larger breeds of dog. I am vastly experienced with grooming as well as all things related to your dogs in general and have been involved with dogs for 38 years and I bring that wealth of knowledge to every grooming encounter. I work on a one 2 one basis with every dog in a private, non clinical and peaceful space and I always put the needs of the dog before everything else.
