🐾 How often should your dog be groomed? 🐾
Every dog is different, but regular grooming is essential for maintaining a healthy coat, healthy skin, and their overall wellbeing.
✨ Daily brushing helps prevent tangles and matting. Most long haired dogs should be brushed at home at LEAST once a week. 
🛁 Bathing every 1–4 weeks keeps your dog clean and comfortable. This won’t negatively affect their skin or coat once you use good quality dog safe products. 
✂️ Professional grooming every 4–10 weeks helps maintain coat condition and hygiene.
💅 Nail trims every 2–4 weeks prevent discomfort and mobility issues. Some dogs file down their nails well naturally however most don’t. Don’t forget to check their dew claws.
👂 Regular ear checks help prevent infections. Especially if your dog has long floppy ears and/or grows hair inside the ear canal.
Consistent grooming isn’t just about keeping your dog looking great, it’s also one of the best ways to spot skin issues, lumps, parasites, and other health concerns early. Most dogs really enjoy being brushed so it’s also a lovely bonding experience with them.

🐾 It’s puppy season! 🐾
One of the most common pieces of advice new puppy owners receive is to wait until 6 months (or anything up to a year) before booking a grooming appointment. Unfortunately, by then many puppies are already matted and their first grooming experience can be stressful, often resulting in a very short shave-down. The owner isn’t happy, the groomer isn’t happy, and the puppy isn’t happy.
The earlier puppies are introduced to grooming, the better.
Good breeders start handling, nail trims, bathing, and hygiene grooming from just a few weeks old. This helps puppies learn that grooming is a normal, positive part of life.
Once your puppy is fully vaccinated (usually around 12 - 16 weeks), it’s time for their first professional grooming visit. Early puppy appointments focus on building confidence, creating positive experiences, and helping your puppy become comfortable with being handled.
At home, keep grooming sessions short, positive, and reward-based.Patience, praise, and plenty of treats will help create a dog that enjoys grooming for life.
