Yesterday, XLVets Skillnet attended the Skillnet Ireland International Skills Summit at the Mansion House in Dublin.

The summit brought together enterprise leaders, policymakers, educators and learning and development experts to explore how Ireland and Europe can develop the skills, capabilities and partnerships needed to drive innovation, strengthen competitiveness and support sustainable economic growth in an era of rapid technological change.

Module ten & eleven of the XLVets Graduate programme took place last week for our 2025/26 cohort.

Delivered by Donal Lynch, MVB MRCVS Cert DHH of Slieve Bloom Veterinary and Conor Geraghty, MVB Cert DHH of FarmGate Veterinary Group, module ten covered topics on bovine reproduction and scanning

Our Chief Executive, Mike Curran, will be speaking with Transition year students as part of XLVets member practice Glen Veterinary's TY Programme, which is taking place this week.

The programme, developed by Kieran O'Mahony, owner of Glen Veterinary, is the first and only programme of it's kind in Ireland and has grown from strength to strength every year, with this year seeing the highest number of attendees to date. The students will receive hands on experience, with each day covering a different theme related to working in veterinary. Mike will be delivering a talk to the attendees as part of the "Entrepreneurship" day.

This week, XLVets Skillnet kicked off our Veterinary Graduate Programme for the 2026/2027 cohort in the Horse & Jockey Hotel, Tipperary.

Our award winning graduate programme is designed to support independent veterinary practices, equiping recent veterinary graduates with the skills and confidence to navigate their first professional role successfully.

Module one covered Bovine Obstetrics and Calf Medicine, and was delivered by trainers Donal Murphy MVB Cert DHH MRCVS, Sliabh Luachra Veterinary and Kevin O'Sullivan MVB Cert DHH, Glasslyn Vet Clinic.

Summerhill Veterinary Clinic - Nenagh, County Tipperary are seeking a Large Animal Vet to join their team, based in Nenagh. Co. Tipperary.

The large animal side of the practice is dairy heavy, with lots of calf to beef and contract rearers too. There are some sucklers, just to keep you on your toes. Summerhill are a herd-health focused, proactive practice that is always looking for new ideas and initiatives to both improve animal welfare and increase productivity.

Package includes:
➡️ The rota is 1 in 7, which doubles up for 12 weeks in the spring.

XLVet Skillnet's recently launched "Future of Veterinary Practice in Ireland: Workforce and Skills Strategy to 2035" report examines the future trajectory of the veterinary profession, identifying the skills, leadership and workforce capabilities required to support independent veterinary practices and strengthen the sector’s contribution to Ireland’s agri-food economy.

The report is intended for practice leaders, educators, regulators, representative bodies, policymakers and Skillnet Ireland partners who play a role in shaping the future of the veterinary profession. It is not an academic review but a sector-facing workforce strategy designed to inform practical action, guide investment decisions and support coordinated capability development across the veterinary ecosystem.
