To All of our reptile friends
The clocks are changing: are ready?
With darker evenings drawing in and temperatures beginning to drop, the clock change is a good opportunity to review your reptile setups and prepare for the colder months ahead.
On Sunday 25th October, the clocks go back one hour at 2am, giving us an extra hour in bed. However, without checking your equipment, your animals’ lighting and heating routines may shift too.
Timers and thermostats
Mechanical timers usually need resetting by hand, and digital units vary, so check each one. A checklist by rack or room helps if you run multiple enclosures.
Lighting and UVB
Make sure lighting timers are correct, especially for species with seasonal or breeding needs. You can shift timings gradually over a few days if preferred.
Heating
With temperatures dropping, check probes are secure, equipment is working and temperatures stay in range, including overnight.
Daily routines
Make sure to check your schedule for feeding, misting and checks.
Some simple hints to keep your reptiles warm and safe over the winter.
