💥Fireworks prep💥
Fireworks are more common this time of year so it’s important to keep your pets safe 💕

If you know of planned celebrations with fireworks scheduled then plan for your pet to be safe and comfortable at the time.

Simple things such as :
- leaving the tv/radio on for them
- Leaving lights on and curtains closed
- Proving mental stimulation with lick mat or chewy treats
- Being home to comfort those who may be extra sensitive to fireworks

Today is obesity awareness day 😁

Today is a great opportunity to check in on your pet’s body condition.

🐾 Try the Rib Test🐾
Place your hands gently on your pet’s chest.
✅ Ideal weight: You can easily feel the ribs with a light covering of fat.
⚠️ Overweight: You have to press firmly to feel the ribs.
❌ Obese: It’s difficult or impossible to feel the ribs.
🐾 Look from Above🐾
When viewed from above, your pet should have a visible waist behind the ribs.
🐾 Look from the Side🐾
There should be a gentle tummy tuck from the ribcage towards the back legs.

Why does it matter?
Excess weight can increase the risk of arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, breathing problems, and reduced quality of life.

Up to 60% of dogs in Ireland are overweight and up to 40% of cats.
Obesity is a preventable disease that you at home can prevent.
We know how much you love your pets, and one of the ways we often show that love is through treats and snacks. ❤️
Sometimes those extra treats can add up over time, which may affect your pet’s health and wellbeing. Showing them love can also mean helping them maintain a healthy weight with correct food, exercise, and portion sizes.
A healthy weight can help your pet stay active, comfortable, and happy for years to come 🥰💪

Feel free to pop in with your pet for a quick weigh in. We can keep track of their weight on their file, this will make it easier for you to monitor their progress to their ideal weight ✅

Today is arthritis awareness day!Arthritis is a common condition in dogs and cats, particularly as they get older. It can cause pain, stiffness and reduced mobility, but there are lots of ways we can help your pet stay comfortable and maintain a good quality of life.

Signs to look out for

🐾Stiffness, especially after resting
🐾Difficulty getting up or lying down
🐾Reluctance to use stairs or jump
🐾Slower or shorter walks
🐾Less interest in playing
🐾Limping or changes in how they walk
🐾Changes in behaviour or becoming less tolerant of being handled

What can you do?
❤️ Keep them at a healthy weight – carrying extra weight puts additional strain on painful joints.
🐾 Keep them gently active – regular, controlled exercise can help maintain muscle strength and mobility.
🛏️ Make them comfortable – soft, supportive bedding
🏠 Make things easier around the home – ramps, steps, non-slip flooring and easily accessible food, water and litter trays can make a big difference.

Osteoarthritis can be managed in many different ways, Our vets can help find the right treatment plan to keep your pet comfortable, active and enjoying life. 🐶🐱💕
If you think any of these signs sound familiar give us a call on 021 4613672 to book an appointment.

Because getting older doesn’t have to mean living with pain. 🐾❤️

Walking your dog safely after dark 🐶

Shorter days mean many of us are out walking our dogs in low light. Keep your pup (and yourself!) safe with a few simple tips:
- Wear reflective clothing and use LED lights or reflective collars for your dog
- Stick to well-lit paths and familiar routes
- Keep your dog on a short leash for better control
- Watch out for icy patches or slippery surfaces
- Carry a torch and make sure your phone is charged

A little extra caution goes a long way so you and your furry friend can enjoy your walks safely this winter!

Love means keeping them safe ❤️

Whether you’ve welcomed a new pet to the family or just want to make sure everything is up to date, microchipping is one of the most important ways to keep them safe ❤️
If your pet ever goes missing, a microchip gives you the best chance of being reunited.
We can scan your pet to check their microchip is working and read the chip number for you.
To update any details linked to the microchip, you’ll just need to log in to your microchip company’s website.
If your contact details change, please remember to let us know too - it helps us keep our records up to date so we can reach you quickly if your pet is ever brought in to us 💕
