During our walk yesterday, we left at 10am when it was cooler but even at that it wasn't long getting warm,so we took lots of breaks , stayed on grassy , woodland shady areas for as much or walk as possible , and did lots of water breaks and continously sprinkled water on the pups and wetted their pads, even if it wasn't the hottest time of the day !the next 3 days are certainly going to be alot hotter even at this time !

And while its lovely to enjoy it with our four legged family, temperatures today , tomorrow and Wednesday are hitting 29/ 30 in Kerry, so instead enjoy a garden day , take out the doggy pool or a sprinkler , let the door open so when they want they can pop in for shade !

Dogs cannot regulated their temperature like we can , so its up to us to take care of them during a heatwave.

If you do want to go for a small stroll :

Go EARLY or LATE when temperatures are cooler! If the pavement is too hot for your hand for longer then 5 seconds, it is certainly too hot for a dogs pads.
Bring water , small amounts often . If at home, access to water at all times.

When in the house , ensure they have shade and access to fresh water at all times. I usually close the curtains on the hottest times of day as the sun shining in can make the room very warm.

Older dogs , young puppies, dogs with health issues or illness are at a high risk of heatstroke .
Bracycephalic breeds( bulldogs , boxers etc) are at a MASSIVE risk of heatstroke, they struggle with their breathing on a normal day.
Things they can enjoy on a hot day😊 :
A paddling pool or a sprinkler in the garden.
Frozen fruit licky mats are great , it will also entice your dog to rest.

And lastly ,
Do not leave your dog in a car!! a window open, air conditioning or in shade is not going to help them.

If you feel your dog is unwell or may be showing signs of heatstroke contact your vet straight away ! 🐾🐶

So I hope all my lovely dogs are OK as sleeping me was very concerned last night ! 🐾🐾
