Breed matters. But breed labels can sometimes become behavioural blind spots.

When we explain behaviour using stereotypes such as 'stubborn', 'nervous' or 'that's just what they do', we risk overlooking the learning history, emotions, environment, health and motivation driving that behaviour.

The goal is to stay curious about the individual dog standing in front of us 🐾

Gigantic whopper "pinch me" moments for Bella and her guardian.
This is real emotional learning and skills built up over time through finding and addressing root cause for behaviours, building new skills, filling Bella's brain with loads of new coping mechanisms and confidence and gentle exposure using counter conditioning and desensitisation and going at her pace and choice led learning. We've gotten here as a collaboration with and Bella's vet team

Mantrailing scent workshops 😍
Each trail is set at the individual capabilities of each dog with a focus on building confidence.
This day was all about "high finds" and navigating movement puzzles like steps and new environments

A most beautiful boy, Winnie. What a legend him and his guardians are. We spent an afternoon helping Winnie through dog-dog reactivity and new and novel things in the environment around his new home. I can't wait to see all the amazing things him and his owners will do

A puppy can live in a loving, safe home and still feel overwhelmed, uncertain, or unsure how to navigate the world. And when that happens, we often see things like:

-Struggling when left alone
-Hesitation or fear around new people or places
-Reactivity or “overreactions”
-Difficulty settling when it’s naptime
-Avoidance or shutdown in seemingly normal situations

Because most of us were taught that if a dog is safe, they should feel fine. But here’s the missing piece: safety and security are not the same thing.
