Our aim is to improve the welfare of all animals, domestic and wild, through: Inspection of reported cases of cruelty; advising the Gardai accordingly Providing shelter for animals in distress, including wild animals and birds Attending accidents involving animals and providing relief as necessary Helping to rehome animals Helping owners to find lost animals Providing a subsidised neutering scheme (between 1/3rd of the cost off) Promoting education on animal welfare. We are always looking for good homes for animals, including dogs, cats, horses, and more. If you decide to adopt an animal, please know that there is a small rehoming fee, and that a home check may be carried out. If you have an animal that you would like us to help you rehome, please contact us and send us a photograph. Disclaimer: The Kilkenny SPCA does not guarantee the health or temperament of any private adoption animal listed on its website. Private adoption agreements are between the person offering the animal for adoption and the individual looking to adopt the animal. All parties using this website agree to release Kilkenny SPCA from any responsibility related to the private adoption process. All cats and dogs posted for privateadoption must be spayed/neutered.

A clean tank means happy, healthy fish!
While our finned friends love a sparkling environment, keeping it clean requires the right steps. Avoid using soaps or harsh chemicals, as these can harm your aquatic pets. Instead, stick to dedicated scrapers and regular water changes to manage algae.

Here are 3 quick tips for a healthy tank today:

🐠 Don't overfeed: Excess food quickly breaks down and pollutes the water.

🐠 Control the light: Limit your tank lighting to 8-10 hours to minimize algae growth.

🐠 Change water gradually: Stick to a 20-30% weekly water change to avoid shocking your fish.

CAT ADOPTION

Barnaby is looking for his Forever Home

The rain was coming down in heavy in Kilkenny when the cardboard box was brought through the front door of Druids Lodge Vets. Inside was a battered, shivering giant of a cat. He had the telltale tufted ears, massive paws, and sweeping tail of a Maine C**n, but his magnificent coat was matted with mud. The veterinary team went straight to work. They treated him and gave him the care he desperately needed. While he was recuperating he was neutered and officially prepared for a second chance at life.
Despite his size, the big cat proved to be a gentle giant, purring like a rusty engine whenever the nurses checked him. They named him Barnaby.
Once stable, Barnaby moved from the clinical surroundings of the clinic into the warmth of a Kilkenny SPCA foster home.
His foster carer marveled at his resilience. Day by day, Barnaby’s confidence grew alongside his appetite. His luxurious, waterproof coat began to regain its luster, and he became a shadow to his foster carer, chirping with that distinct, high-pitched Maine C**n trill that contrasted hilariously with his lion-like appearance. Before long, a family stepped forward to adopt him. Everyone at the Kilkenny SPCA celebrated what they thought was Barnaby’s happy ending.

Regrettably, life is rarely predictable. Through no fault of his own, the placement did not work out. Barnaby found himself back in the care of the Kilkenny SPCA. The sudden shift left him a little confused, but his sweet, affectionate nature remained entirely intact.
Now Barnaby is looking for a true forever home. He needs a family who understands the needs of a large, intelligent breed—someone who will appreciate his vocal conversations, give him room to stretch his long legs, and offer him the unwavering commitment he deserves. He would be better suited on his own as he likes to be the king of the castle ans doesn't get on well with other cars.
