*Schedule electricity outage Saturday 12th September*

We have been notified of a scheduled electricity outage for Saturday 12th of September. While the clinic will be open we kindly ask clients to pre-order medications for collection for Friday or Monday. We will not be able to dispense non-pre-ordered medications on Saturday if we cannot access your file to ensure correct and safe dosages ect. Thank you for your understanding.

A message to our valued clients at GoreyBrayvets and pet owning clients of Gorey Veterinary Hospital.
Goreybrayvets is sympathetic to the problems Gorey Vet Hospital is experiencing because of a ceiling collapse.
Our loyal Goreybrayvet clients are our first priority and we will as best possible look after your needs first. Please be patient with our hardworking staff answering the phones and trying to fit you into our tight appointment schedule.
We are taking on additional staff to help cope with this problem we could not have planned for.
Karen Cooke, a lovely vet who has worked in the UK is coming back to her home town with her husband and young son. You may recognise her as she grew up locally. She will be finding her feet with us and is a much welcomed addition. She will be seeing appointments Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Sarah Brunner is a registered veterinary nurse with many years of experience and has worked with Nicola when at Brayvets. Sarah will be working looking after your pets in hospital on Fridays and will be at the end of the phone weekday mornings triaging your pets needs as being urgent or just needing a scheduled routine appointment.

Pet owning clients of GOREY VET HOSPITAL, part of the corporate IVC group:
Please phone Gorey Vet Hospital first! They have vets and staff on duty who will help you and direct you to one of their IVC branches. If you are not willing to drive 30 minutes to a branch clinic please do not expect us to be able to fit you in within 24 hours or even three working days.
We will always see a serious emergency, but even if you think it is you should phone your own vet first. If they do not answer phone us so we can prepare for you. Emergencies are looked after more successfully with advanced notice!

PRESCRIPTIONS:
It is not our responsibility and not legally possible for a vet to dispense medication who are not under their care. You should get a prescription from your own vet and ideally go to a chemist.
Gorey vet hospital should be able to dispense medications. In instances where they can not, prescriptions and stock control take time as usually we only keep stock to hand for our own clients.
Prescriptions should be sent to us by Gorey Vet Hospital first and then ordered by you with 24 hours advance notice on a weekday and will only be ready if you phone us first and we have sufficient stock of that medication. It is not possible for us to source every medication and if we do not have it we do not have it.

It’s that time of year again! 🐾💜

The Great Global Greyhound Walk is about so much more than just a walk. It’s a chance to put our wonderful sighthounds centre stage, show people what incredible companions they make, and help bust some of the myths that still surround these beautiful dogs.

Sadly, sighthounds are among Ireland’s most abused, neglected and misunderstood dogs — which is all the more heartbreaking when you discover just how gentle, affectionate and wonderfully laid-back they can be.

So, if you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to share your life with a greyhound or another sighthound — or you’re thinking about welcoming a dog into your family — come along and meet them!

Meet our hounds, have a chat with their humans, ask questions, get some cuddles and discover why so many of us completely fall in love with these long-legged beauties. 🥰🐾

Come for the walk. Come for the chats. Come and discover just how special sighthounds really are. 💜

As the hot weather takes hold here are some tips from the RVC for preventing heat stroke in dogs and cats:

Make sure your pet always has access to a cool shaded area, both indoors and outside

Restrict exercise on warm days (dogs should be walked early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid the hottest part of the day)

Remember, hot pavements can burn paws! If it’s too hold your hand on, it’s too hot for your pet to walk on.

Never leave pets in a car or a hot room (eg conservatories)

Ensure your pet always has drinking water available, adding ice can help keep it cool

Ensure your pet is regularly groomed if this is advised for their breed

If youre pet is showing any signs of heat stroke such as panting, restlessness, drooling, increased heart rate start immediate cooling methods such as:
1. Take your pet somewhere cool and ventilated. In front of a fan if you have available.
2. Offer small sips of water
3. Bathe in cool water. Do not cover with wet towels.
