💧 Encourage Your Cat to Drink More Water

Cats evolved from desert-dwelling ancestors, which means they naturally have a low thirst drive. Even when they need more water, many cats don’t feel thirsty in the same way other animals do.

Because of this, some cats may not drink enough, which can contribute to urinary and kidney problems over time.

Top tip: Many cats prefer running water rather than still water. A cat water fountain can encourage them to drink more by keeping water fresh, moving, and appealing.
You can also help by:

• Placing water bowls in several locations around the house
• Keeping bowls clean and filled with fresh water
• Using wide, shallow bowls that don’t touch their whiskers

Small changes can make a big difference in helping your cat stay well hydrated and healthy. 🐱

✈️ Holiday Season Is Beginning

☀️ Hot Weather Warning - The heat can become dangerous for animals quickly!

To Avoid Heat Stroke, Please:

💧Keep fresh water available at all times
💧Provide shade for animals
💧Walk dogs at a cooler time of day
💧Check livestock regularly for signs of heat stress

Heat exhaustion can happen QUICKLY - especially in young, elderly or unwell animals

SIGNS
🌻Excessive panting or drooling
🌻Weakness or collapse
🌻Restlessness or confusion

LOST CAT ALERT 🐾

We were contacted this morning by an owner who is desperately searching for his missing cat - Please keep an eye out.

His name is Ziggy. He is a 3-year-old Ragdoll, neutered and microchipped.

Ziggy was last seen on St. Brendan's Avenue in Woodquay on Friday 22nd May. He is very friendly, although he may be frightened.

Please check your sheds, garages.

🌼 Hot Summer Days Ahead!

Did you know that dogs and cats can’t sweat like humans do?

They mainly cool themselves down by panting and releasing small amounts of heat through their paw pads.

Cats are generally a little better adapted to warm weather. Their ancestors lived in desert environments, so many cats cope with heat more efficiently and will naturally find cool resting spots during the day.

Dogs are much less adapted to heat and can overheat more quickly.

A few simple ways to help keep your pets comfortable:
• Make sure fresh water is always available
• Provide plenty of shade and cool resting areas
• Avoid walks during the hottest part of the day
• Never leave pets in a parked car, even for a short time

If your pet shows signs such as excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or confusion, it may be a sign of heatstroke, and they should be seen by a vet urgently.
