The 23% VAT rate imposed on the dog grooming industry presents a significant impediment to its growth. Many businesses will likely endeavor to remain below the VAT threshold, as they recognize that incorporating an additional 23% onto each grooming service would compromise their competitive standing against businesses not subject to this rate. Should our industry be afforded the same VAT classification as hairdressers, the potential for growth and transformation within the sector would be substantial.

You might have seen in the news today that hairdressers and barbers are celebrating a well-deserved reduction in their VAT rates. While we are genuinely thrilled for our friends in the human hair industry, i wanted to make sure everyone knows that this does NOT include us Groomers and Stylists.

Despite doing a very similar job—just with a lot more wiggling! 😄 —dog grooming is still classified under the standard 23% VAT rate.

Why this matters:

As small businesses, we face the exact same rising costs for electricity, specialised equipment, shampoo, and training. However, we still have to absorb or pass on that heavy 23% tax burden, while human salons get a financial breather.

We love what we do, and we love pampering your pups. It is essential! We will always fight to keep our prices as fair and competitive as possible while maintaining the highest standards of safety and care for your fur babies.

Hopefully we can make a change by spreading the word that we deserve this reduction also.

The new addition to The Grooming Studio, Miss Lacey (standard silver poodle 🐩) 18 weeks old.
She was gifted a beautiful bow by a fellow groomer and friend. I'm going to share her link, and you can find her on Facebook and Instagram, too.

If you have appointments booked this week, I will keep you updated before your appointment and what the roads are like here. I want your safety first, as we can reschedule for next. If you want to cancel at any time this week because of the weather, I totally understand. I know some towns are not getting much of anything, while others are covered in snow and ice. (My road was extremely icy this morning)
I am looking forward to seeing you all this year, and I am always forever grateful for supporting my little business and trusting me with your pups.

Due to a family emergency, I have been unable to work and have had to cancel and rearrange some appointments. I am starting back to work next week and will be getting back to any messages I have received over the last week. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
If you need an appointment sooner, woof cutz is working from my place, and laura may be able to fit you in sooner.
