Thanks to Dan Danaher for covering the Parteen greyhound case in this week’s Clare Champion🙏

In the article, our director Stiofán discusses not only the appalling conditions in which these four beautiful dogs are being kept, but the cruelty and suffering that remain woven into the fabric of the Irish greyhound industry.

As well as calling for a ban on greyhound racing, Stiofán highlights the extraordinary situation whereby Greyhound Racing Ireland polices itself. He also discusses overbreeding in the industry and the estimated 5,000–6,000 dogs killed annually when they are no longer considered useful.

Anyone who has adopted a greyhound will tell you what wonderful companions they are – gentle, calm, affectionate dogs who adore their home comforts and form deep loving bonds with their people. Yet across Ireland, countless greyhounds spend their lives confined in small cages, without freedom, comfort, or knowing what it feels like to be part of a loving family. Thousands are killed every year when they can’t run fast enough or are retired from racing, many others die from injuries sustained on the track, and countless more are exported abroad for breeding and hunting💔

Our favourite senator, Chris Andrews, is also quoted in the piece, having highlighted the Parteen case in the Seanad and called for stronger welfare protections for greyhounds in Ireland. Thanks to Chris for continuing to be one of the few politicians willing to speak up for these dogs and challenge an industry that has been allowed to operate with far too little transparency and accountability.

This case has raised important questions about transparency, accountability, and the fact that Greyhound Racing Ireland is effectively tasked with regulating itself. No industry should be allowed to investigate itself, police itself, and then assure the public that everything is fine. An industry receiving almost €20 million in public funding every year should be subject to genuinely independent welfare inspections and oversight – not left to mark its own homework.

Slash needs a foster home – please spread the word!🙏🐾🚨

This beautiful 10-month-old Border Collie is waiting to come into our care, but we don’t have a suitable fosterer who’s available right now. We’re hoping someone in Clare or the surrounding counties might be willing to open their heart and home to this lovely boy for a few weeks while we search for his forever family🏡💕

Slash is kind, incredibly clever, and has a gentle, affectionate nature🥰 He adores people, is great with children, and would make a wonderful family companion.

A kind family in East Clare took in Slash and his brother from an elderly farmer whose dog had an unexpected litter and who was struggling to care for the pups. They’ve done a fantastic job giving the boys a safe start, but managing two energetic young Border Collies has proved a little too much, so they reached out to us for help finding Slash the home he deserves🤞

Slash gets on well with other dogs and loves human company. He has been living with three children, including one as young as four years old, and has been wonderful with them. However, he’s not a big fan of cats, so we’re looking for a cat-free foster home.

If you could offer this sweet young lad a safe place to stay while he waits for his next chapter, we’d love to hear from you🙏 Please fill out our fostering form below. If you’re interested in fostering with a view to adoption, just let us know on the same form:

Does nobody want me... nobody at all??🥺💔 I’m trying not to take it personally, but I’ve been waiting and waiting for my person, and nobody has come for me yet😔 Can you share for me so that I might have better luck this time?🙏

Maybe people see that I’m a Malinois and think I’ll be too much work. Maybe my future person just hasn’t spotted my posts. Or maybe they don’t realise that underneath my clever brain is just a very sweet boy who desperately wants someone to love🥹️

My name’s Bruno, I’m nearly 3 years old, and if you asked the people who know me what I’m like, they’d tell you that I’m equal parts smart and soft🥰

Yes, I love training. Yes, I love learning new things. And yes, I get very excited when treats are involved🍖🤩 But my favourite thing in the whole world is being close to my people. If you’re gardening, I’ll supervise. If you’re making dinner, I’ll happily keep you company. If you’re sitting down for a quiet evening, I’ll be right there beside you, asking for cuddles😍💕

I live happily with another dog in my foster home, and I’ve lived with cats before too🐱🐾 Children can be a little overstimulating for me, so I’m looking for a child-free home where I can truly relax😇

I’d love a home with people who enjoy getting out and about, doing fun activities together, and helping me keep my busy brain occupied! Mostly, though, I’m just looking for my person. Someone to share adventures with. Someone to curl up beside at the end of the day🥹️

I’ve been waiting for a few months now, and I’d really love for this to be the last adoption appeal I ever have to write💔

If you live in Ireland and think we could be a match, please fill out the adoption form below. And if you can’t adopt me yourself, please share my post. The more people who see me, the better my chances of finally finding where I belong🙏🥰🐾

Say hello to our newest girl, Yuki👋🐾 This beautiful 1-year-old Akita can’t wait to find a loving family of her own, so please give her a share and help us find her people🙏🏡

Yuki was taken in by one of our volunteer drivers after suffering abuse and neglect in her previous home. The poor girl had been left alone in a small garden for months, and heartbreakingly, neighbours had reported that she was often beaten💔 Thankfully, our volunteer stepped in to give Yuki a safe place to stay, but unfortunately her own dog isn’t keen on sharing her home with another dog, so Yuki is now searching for her forever family.

Despite everything she has been through, Yuki is incredibly friendly, affectionate and trusting with people🥰 She absolutely adores human company, loves kids, and has been so excited to meet everyone since being rescued from her former life. It’s amazing to see how much love she still has to give despite the cruelty she experienced🥹

She’s a lively, energetic girl, but that’s hardly surprising given that she was never walked, played with, or given the chance to enjoy life. Now she’s making up for lost time and embracing every new experience with enthusiasm✨

Yuki is nervous around other dogs, so we’re looking for a home where she will be the only dog. With time, patience and positive experiences, she can gradually build her confidence around other dogs. She has not been tested with cats, so we’re currently looking for a cat-free home. Now that she knows how lovely it feels to have kind humans looking after her, she’s not keen on being alone for long, so we’re hoping to find her a home where she won’t be left on her own for long stretches.

If you live in Ireland and would love to give this sweet, affectionate and cuddly girl the happy life she so deserves, please fill out our adoption form below:

Remember Indy, the adorable little Italian Greyhound pup who we posted last week? Well, his name is now Ernie, and he has a big brother called Bert! Bert and Ernie – how perfect🥰🥰

As you can see, he’s already settled in perfectly in his forever home in County Wicklow🥳🎉

Huge thanks Laura, Matthew and Bert for welcoming this gorgeous little guy into their family, and for giving him such a loving home! Thank you to Ernie’s amazing foster family for minding him so well, and to everyone who shared his post so that we could find his perfect match🙏😃
