-How to problem-solve to prevent and reduce stress and fearfulness.
-Be provided with outlets for their normal doggy instincts to prevent and reduce boredom and frustration.
-And most importantly, for us humans to understand them because if we want them to learn our language, we also need to learn theirs, that's only fair right?!

Sat in the shade for a break on our Gallivant. Bailey decided that meant full-body cuddles on top of me. Large dog, zero concept of personal space, very Golden Retriever 🐾💚

Welcome Spud! He’s 7, a rescue, and very new to his forever home.

It’s not easy starting over at his age. He’s a little anxious, still unsure of a lot of things, but he’s taking to his new life better than anyone could have hoped.
Spud is one of two new Gallivanters to join us this week, and we’re so glad to have him as part of the gang. Every day he’s a bit braver, a bit more curious, and a bit more himself 🐾💚

Bobby and Roscoe are both black Labradors, but when it comes to playing fetch, they couldn’t be more different.

Bobby loves to keep possession of the ball and parade around with it like he’s the bee’s knees. Roscoe would much rather bring the toy straight back to my hand so we can have a game of tug.

Roscoe is also more likely to release the toy quickly because he’s anticipating the next game. Bobby, on the other hand, values keeping hold of the toy, because possession is part of the fun for him.

Neither dog is “better” than the other. They simply have different personalities, preferences and motivations.
Your dog’s behaviour is shaped by so much more than their breed: their individual personality, genetics, environment, life experiences, learning history and the relationship they have with you.

So try not to compare your dog to another dog, even if they’re the same breed.

Instead, work with the dog in front of you. Learn what motivates them, understand what they enjoy and build your training around who they are.

Because your dog doesn’t need to be like another dog. They need to be understood. 🐾💚

Zuki’s transformation wasn’t flashy, but it was huge.🙌🏻

When she first came to me, she found it incredibly difficult to cope with me simply being in the same room. Her nervous system was constantly in flight mode, which meant she couldn’t think clearly, process what was happening or work out how to respond.
For nervous or rescue dogs, everyday situations can feel overwhelming. Even learning something simple, like settling on a mat, can be a big ask when they’re worried about the world around them.

But with time, patience and a carefully managed environment, Zuki began to feel safer.

By our last session, she was confidently learning her mat work with me just a few feet away. She was beginning to enjoy learning, make choices and even choose to sit and relax in the same room as me.

To some people, that might seem like a small thing.
For Zuki and her owner, it was a massive accomplishment.

Real progress with a nervous dog rarely happens overnight. It’s usually slow, calm and gradual, built through trust, consistency and allowing the dog to work at a pace they can cope with.

There are still steps ahead for Zuki, but she is growing in confidence every day. And with such a supportive, loving owner beside her, she has the best chance of becoming the confident little dog she can be.

If your dog struggles with fear, nervousness or confidence, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Get in touch and let’s get you and your dog the support you need.🐾💚

Billie’s 3rd Walk’N’Train session was all about building on the foundations we’ve already started, loose lead skills, engagement, and emergency behaviours and beginning to use them in different environments.

This is the part of training that so many owners want to rush, but it’s also the part that makes the biggest difference. A dog doesn’t truly learn a skill just because they can do it once in one familiar place. Real progress happens when we slowly start to generalise those skills, while still keeping things calm enough for success.

That means low distractions, minimal triggers, and setting Billie up to win. Because if your dog is already overwhelmed, distracted, or over threshold, they’re not learning, they’re coping.

We also spent time practising Billie’s “this way” cue while she was busy, because emergency behaviours need to mean something in the real world, not just in a quiet training bubble. If you want your dog to respond when it matters, you have to rehearse it when life is happening around them.

And then, just as importantly, we finished with decompression. Sniffing, finding, and slowing down aren’t extras, they’re part of the training too. Dogs need time to process, reset, and take information in at their own pace.

These clips are taken straight from the training videos I sent Billie’s owner, so they can keep following along with her progress between sessions too.

A good training session isn’t about how many steps you get in. It’s about helping your dog feel safe, understood, and capable.

If your dog needs support with loose lead walking, reactivity, or learning how to cope better in the real world, reach out and let’s get them where they deserve to be. 🐾💚

Puppies don’t automatically know how to walk nicely, come back when called or stay connected to us outdoors, these are skills they need time and space to practise 🐾

A long line can be a really useful tool because it gives your puppy the freedom to sniff, explore and make choices, while allowing you to stay connected and support them when needed.

Boris is learning that checking in, coming back and choosing to walk with his person can be rewarding. We’re not expecting perfect behaviour or constant focus, we’re building the foundations for future loose-lead walking, recall and engagement.

Freedom, guidance and plenty of opportunities to make good choices.🐾💚

Always use a long line safely, ideally attached to a well-fitted harness, and in an appropriate environment.

Here is Roscoe and I practising and repeating his heel positions; left, right and middle, in a busy town centre. This is called GENERALISATION: teaching a dog to offer the same behaviours in different places, with different distractions, and around real-life triggers.

If your dog can do a behaviour at home but not out in the world, the skill isn’t unreliable, the training environment is still too easy. To make behaviours stick, we need to:

🐾 Train in layers: start in low-distraction areas, then gradually add people, traffic, and noise
🐾 Keep sessions short and successful: lots of reps, clear cues, high-value rewards
🐾 Be consistent with our own position and movement so the dog knows exactly what you want them to do
🐾 Build up slowly: quiet street → busier road → full town centre.

If you’d like help to generalise your dog’s skills to real life places (walks, cafés, town centres), get in touch 🐾💚

Billie’s second Walk’N’Train session was all about building the kind of confidence that actually matters in real life. Not perfect obedience. Not “just ignore it.” Real, usable skills that help a dog feel safer and make better choices when life gets a bit much.

We started with mat work because for a lot of dogs, the hardest part isn’t the noise, the visitors, or the café. It’s learning how to settle when their brain is telling them to get busy, get excited, or keep reacting. Teaching Billie to go to her mat is teaching her how to switch off, regulate, and choose calm, even when things are happening around her.

That’s why this matters for dogs who become overwhelmed with visitors at the door, struggle to settle in public, or find other dogs just a little too exciting or too stressful. These aren’t “bad dog” moments. They’re usually communication moments. Your dog is telling you they need help.

And when we moved into Billie’s reactivity advocacy work, that was the goal: to support her through those sticky moments instead of pushing her through them. Because for a lot of dogs, the answer isn’t more pressure, it’s better understanding, clearer guidance, and giving them tools they can actually use.

There was also background noise in this session that would have unsettled Billie before. So instead of asking her to simply cope, we paused and played a pattern game to help her reset and feel safe again. That’s the kind of training that builds trust, confidence, and resilience over time.

These clips are taken straight from the training videos I sent to Billie’s owner, so they can keep learning and building these skills between sessions too.

If your dog is easily overaroused, struggles to settle, reacts to the world around them, or just seems like they’re always “on,” this is exactly the kind of work they need.

If you’d like support teaching your dog how to cope better in the real world, get in touch and let’s give your dog the help they need to feel calm & safe in the busy world. 🐾💚

Lucky solved the mistery, he’s a good boy! 🐾💚

Teaching a puppy a marker is one of the first things I focus on in training, because it gives them instant clarity. Instead of guessing what earned the reward, your puppy learns exactly what to repeat.

Boris is in his very first session here, learning the orientation game while building that communication from the start. This is how we set puppies up for success, with confidence, focus, and clear feedback.

If you have a puppy and want to make training easier from day one, start with the marker. SAY "YES!" -> FEED PUPPY TREAT -> REPEAT.

Ready to build better focus and communication with your puppy? Get in touch through the link in my bio and we’ll build a plan that actually fits your puppy and your day-to-day life.💚 🐾
