But a microchip provides your pet with permanent identification that can help reunite them with you if they ever become lost.

💡 Here's the important part: a microchip only works if the contact details linked to it are up to date.

Have you:
✔ Changed your phone number?
✔ Moved house?
✔ Changed your email address?
✔ Rehomed a pet?

If so, it may be time to update your pet's microchip information.

This National Microchipping Month, take a few minutes to make sure your pet's details are correct. It could make all the difference if they ever go missing.

Not sure if your pet is microchipped or whether their details are up to date? Pop into the clinic and we'd be happy to scan their chip and point you in the right direction.

😾 "Excuse me... I was having a perfectly good nap."

Missy recently paid us a visit with a sore ear and, judging by her expression, she was less than thrilled about being woken up for her examination! 💤➡️🩺

Ear problems are common in both cats and dogs and can be caused by infections, ear mites, allergies, polyps, foreign material, or underlying skin conditions. Signs to watch out for include:
👂 Head shaking
👂 Scratching at the ears
👂 Redness or swelling
👂 A bad smell from the ears
👂 Discharge or debris
👂 Sensitivity when the ears are touched
👂 Changes in balance or hearing

If you notice any of these symptoms, it's best to have your pet checked sooner rather than later. Ear issues can be uncomfortable and may worsen without the right treatment.

✨ MEET THE TEAM! ✨ Emer, Veterinary Surgeon 👩‍⚕️🐾

🐾 Say hello to Emer, one of our fantastic vets whose love for animals began long before veterinary school! Growing up in Cork, she spent her childhood outdoors with the family dogs and was always on the lookout for animals that might need a helping hand.

✨ A few fun facts:
🍀 Born and raised in Cork
🐕 Her first pet was a Labrador called Murphy, who patiently endured years of dress-up sessions and imaginative games
🐠 One of her childhood goldfish lived to the remarkable age of 19!
🩺 Spent hours playing "vet" with her neighbour using a toy veterinary kit
🎓 Started out studying Chemistry at UCC before following her dream of veterinary medicine
🇭🇺 Graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Budapest in 2024
🏥 Returned to Ireland and gained experience in a busy Dublin small animal practice before joining the Urban Vets team
🌊 Loves long walks, gym sessions, and spending time by the sea (especially if she can get into the water!)
🐾 Still can't walk past an animal without stopping to admire it

We're delighted to welcome Emer to Urban Vets Ashtown! Her lifelong passion for animals, combined with her warmth and dedication, makes her a wonderful addition to the team 💚🐾

Can we all take a moment to appreciate how adorable Teddy is? 🥹

This brave little gentleman popped into the clinic for his very first puppy vaccination and health check. Not only was he a superstar for his vaccines and full nose-to-tail examination, but he also made sure to collect plenty of cuddles from Molly and Shauna before heading home. 🩺✨

Puppy vaccinations help protect against serious infectious diseases and give your newest family member the best start in life. Regular annual check-ups and booster vaccinations are just as important to keep them healthy as they grow.

💩 More poo bag dispensers are popping up around our community! 💩

Thanks to all of your support and feedback, we've been able to install even more free poo bag dispensers in local parks and walking areas, with plenty more locations planned in the coming weeks. 🐾

Keeping our parks, green spaces and footpaths clean is a team effort and this is one small way we're giving back to the wonderful community that supports us every day. 💚

If you spot an empty or damaged dispenser, send us a WhatsApp on 089 463 1563 and we'll get it sorted as soon as possible.

May is Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month 💙🐾

Today we're celebrating our wonderful student veterinary nurse, Gwen ✨

If you've ever wondered how the clinic seems to be magically organised and ready for a new week every Monday morning, there's a good chance Gwen had something to do with it! Gwen joins us on Saturdays and has an incredible knack for catching all the little things that may have been missed during a busy week, helping us reset, reorganise and prepare for the week ahead.

As a student veterinary nurse, Gwen is constantly learning, developing her skills and growing in confidence. Her dedication to her training and her eagerness to learn make her such a valuable member of our team and we love watching her progress on her veterinary nursing journey.

But Gwen doesn't just help keep the clinic running smoothly, she also brings a little extra joy wherever she goes. She is responsible for the growing population of tiny baby ducks that have mysteriously appeared throughout the clinic 🐥💛 Hidden on shelves, tucked into corners and even proudly displayed on our reception desk, these little ducks have become a beloved part of clinic life and never fail to make us smile.

Thank you, Gwen, for all your hard work, your enthusiasm, your attention to detail and for bringing a little whimsy to our days. We're so lucky to have you as part of our team and can't wait to see where your veterinary nursing career takes you 🐶🐱🐰

May is Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month 💙🐾

Today we’re celebrating our wonderful nurse Jeoung ✨

As one of our newer graduate nurses, Jeoung has already become such an important part of our team. She approaches every day with so much dedication, kindness and determination to keep learning and improving and we are so proud to watch her grow into such a fantastic RVN.

Jeoung absolutely shines during client consultations, always making sure both pets and owners feel comfortable, supported and cared for. Her clinical notes are always impeccable, organised and up to date 👏

One of our favourite things about Jeoung is her commitment to learning. During quieter moments in the clinic, you’ll often find her with her iPad studying, researching and expanding her knowledge so she can continue providing the very best care to her patients.

Jeoung brings such a calm, caring and thoughtful presence to our team and we feel so lucky to have her as part of our clinic family 💛

Thank you for all your hard work, Jeoung. We can’t wait to see all the amazing things you’ll continue to achieve 🐶🐱🐰

May is Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month 💙🐾

Today we’re celebrating our incredible nurse Shauna ✨

Shauna is truly the MVP of our clinic. An exceptionally talented RVN, she absolutely shines when it comes to anaesthetic monitoring and patient care and she’s always the first person to jump in and help wherever she’s needed.

Broken equipment that nobody else can figure out? Shauna somehow fixes it. Team running on empty after a busy day? Shauna is already offering to make teas and coffees for everyone ☕💛

Around the clinic, Shauna is also known as our CEO — Chief Entertainment Officer 🎉 She dedicates her own free time to organising fun team outings, making sure everyone feels included, supported and part of the team. She brings so much positivity and laughter into our clinic, especially on the hard days and has genuinely brought many of us to tears from laughing so hard.

Shauna also helps coach veterinary nursing students, supports new team members through onboarding with endless patience and kindness and works hard behind the scenes processing insurance claims for our clients.

She is the absolute light of our clinic, an amazing nurse, an amazing teammate and an even better friend. We are so lucky and so grateful to have you, Shauna 💛🐶🐱🐰
