🐱 Happy Hug Your Cat Day! 🐱

Today (4th June) is Hug Your Cat Day, although if you’re a cat owner, you’ll know that whether a hug is welcomed is entirely up to the cat! 😹

Cats may have a reputation for being independent, but they form strong bonds with their families and show affection in lots of ways:
🐾 Slow blinks
🐾 Head bumps
🐾 Purring
🐾 Following you from room to room
🐾 Sitting on your laptop when you’re trying to work

Not all cats enjoy being picked up or cuddled, so the best way to celebrate today might simply be spending some quality time together, offering a favourite treat, or indulging them with a gentle chin scratch.

📸 We’d love to see your feline friends! Share a photo of your cat in the comments below.

🐱💙

(And remember: if your cat’s tail starts swishing, that hug may be over before it began! 😸)

📚🍀 Best of luck to all Junior Cert and Leaving Cert students starting their exams today! 🍀📚

Everyone here at Village Vets Cloyne is wishing you the very best over the coming weeks.

Remember, exam season can be stressful, so don’t forget to take care of yourself too. Your pets are experts at helping us slow down and reset, whether it’s a cuddle with the cat, a game with the dog, or getting out for a walk with your four-legged study buddy, a little animal therapy can go a long way. 🐶🐱❤️

Take a deep breath, trust the hard work you’ve already put in, and remember that no exam result can measure your kindness, character, or potential.

Good luck from all the team at Village Vets Cloyne, we’re rooting for you! 🎓✨

If Bailey and Misty’s smiles are anything to go by, the Bank Holiday is officially here! 😁🐾

These two gorgeous patients were delighted with all the fuss from Suzanne during their visit, and we hope you and your pets are enjoying the long weekend just as much.

Have a safe, happy, and tail-wagging Bank Holiday Monday from all of us at Village Vets Cloyne! ☀️💙🐶

RVN Awareness Month continues 🩺💉

Not only are our nurses nursing, they’re also phlebotomists, patient cuddlers, treat negotiators, anaesthetists, dental assistants, radiographers, receptionists, cleaners and occasionally professional wranglers 😅

Safe to say veterinary nursing is the only job with truly limitless titles. 🦸‍♀️

Here are our amazing nurses Chloe and Elise taking bloods from the gorgeous Peppa 🐾💕

This month (and every month) we’re so grateful for everything our RVNs do behind the scenes for your pets.

We’ve gone from sunshine to thunderstorm in true Irish fashion today 😅⛈️☀️

But with warmer temperatures expected again later, it’s still important to help our pets stay cool, hydrated, and safe 🐾

Dogs and cats can overheat much faster than we do,especially older pets, flat-faced breeds, overweight pets, and thick-coated fluffballs who suddenly regret all their life choices in this weather 😅

🧊 Cooling Tips

* Provide plenty of shaded, well-ventilated areas
* Use cooling mats or damp towels for them to lie on
* Freeze water bottles, wrap them in a towel, and place nearby
* Keep curtains closed during peak heat hours
* Brush excess undercoat out (but don’t shave double-coated breeds)
* Avoid walks during the hottest parts of the day (early morning or later evening is best- if at all)

💧 Boost Hydration

* Place multiple fresh water bowls around the house and garden
* Add water to meals for extra hydration
* Offer ice cubes as treats or add them to water bowls
* Cats often prefer moving water,fountains can encourage drinking

🍓 Easy Frozen Treat Idea

🐶 Dog Ice Pops
Blend:

* Water or low-salt chicken stock
* A spoon of plain yogurt
* A few blueberries or strawberries

Freeze in silicone moulds or ice cube trays.

🐱 Cat Version
Freeze small amounts of:

* Tuna water (spring water only, not brine)
* Or diluted low-salt chicken stock

Perfect for a little cooling treat once the sun comes back out 🧊

⚠️ Signs of Heatstroke

* Excessive panting
* Drooling
* Weakness or wobbliness
* Vomiting
* Bright red gums
* Collapse

Heatstroke is an emergency 🚨 contact your vet immediately if you’re worried.

And finally: please don’t leave pets in cars. Even in Ireland, cars heat up frighteningly fast once the sun appears! 🚗 🔥

Thunder in the Cork area now, please check your pets and keep them safe.

When the clinic closes but the superhero shift starts 🦸‍♂️🦆

A member of the public contacted us after spotting ducklings trapped in a garden. Mama Duckling flew off in distress. After work, Ben stepped in, rescued the little gang, and safely reunited them with their mother in a nearby field 💚

Saving ducklings by evening, breaking hearts by morning, our local heartthrob strikes again. Honestly, is there anything this man can’t do? 😂😆

Huge thanks to the member of the public for caring enough to call, and fair play to Ben for making sure this story got the happy ending it deserved 🐥
