Yakutian Laika 1 week old in Ireland

They say that if you want to make God laugh, tell Him about your plans. And that is exactly what happened in my case. šŸ˜„

Some time ago, I wrote a post saying that I had closed my dog breeding programme last year and that there would be no more litters. And, of course, at exactly that time, my 6-year-old female was in heat. In desperation, she chewed a hole through the fence and managed to get into the other garden, where the male, Tintin, was running around.

I had no idea how long they had been together. I was hoping it had only been about 5 minutes, but judging by the result — 9 puppies — their little rendezvous must have lasted at least 15 minutes. šŸ«£šŸ˜‚

At first, I decided that I would have her spayed, but if she was already pregnant, that would also mean terminating the pregnancy. After thinking it through, I realised that I would never forgive myself for ending the lives of innocent little beings simply because they didn’t fit into my plans for my life.

And so, I am announcing what I truly hope will be the very last litter at Zhowerli Yakutian Laikas Kennel. ā¤ļøšŸ¾

This litter will have names beginning with the letter K, so all name suggestions are very welcome!

And I can honestly say that I’m very happy these little ones have arrived. I’ll have someone to pour all my love into, and I’ll receive enormous amounts of love in return. Because if anyone knows how to give unconditional love abundantly, it’s a puppy. And this time, I’ll be getting nine times as much of it. ā¤ļøšŸ¶šŸ¶šŸ¶šŸ¶šŸ¶šŸ¶šŸ¶šŸ¶šŸ¶

And while I’m here, a little question for anyone around Castlebar: I need some old bedding to line the puppies’ whelping and rearing area. If anyone has any unwanted sheets, duvet covers or other old bedding they no longer need, I would be very happy to take it off your hands. šŸ™

Just to clarify something, because I know some people have been wondering what happened to my adult dogs after I decided to close my breeding program. They are all still with me, and they will stay with me for as long as they live—or for as long as I do.

It’s true that I’ve almost stopped posting photos and videos of them, especially compared to the flood of posts I used to share when they were puppies. The reason goes back four years, when I lost three of my dogs on the railway tracks, including my beloved Lady.

I loved her so deeply that, at the time, I would have traded the lives of all my other dogs just to have her back. Some people may think that sounds cruel, but that’s exactly how I felt. She was my soulmate, and she was the one I lost.

Everything happened far too quickly. First, my brother died. Exactly one month after his death, my eight-year-old cat suddenly passed away without any warning or signs of illness. The bond I had with him was as deep as the one I had with Lady—perhaps even deeper. Then, the very next day after my cat died, three of my dogs ran away and disappeared.

I searched for them desperately for two weeks, only to discover that they had been buried less than a kilometre from my home by the railway services, who never informed us about what had happened.

Today, I believe it was divine providence that it took so long to find out. If I had found them on the tracks that very day, I honestly don’t think I would have stepped off those tracks until another train had taken my life as well. Those two weeks gave me just enough time to calm down enough to survive the devastating truth.

It was like being caught in a whirlwind of death. In reality, I never truly grieved for my brother or for my animals, because the only way to stop my heart from shattering into a million pieces was to freeze it.

Not because I lacked feelings. Not because I became numb. But because the pain was simply too deep, too overwhelming to bear. Sometimes the only thing you can do is keep moving forward and survive.

It didn’t matter that afterwards I lived like a robot, like a machine—as long as I was still alive.

Now I am healing my heart. Little by little, I am thawing it out. That is why I am finding my way back to my dogs—not only with my body, but with my heart as well.
