💚 Wag & Walk: €2,000 raised for CSPCA!

We recently visited the CSPCA to present a cheque for €2,000, raised through our Wag & Walk charity event.

A sincere thank you to everyone who took part, donated money and pet food, sponsored prizes and services and supported the event. Your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated! 💚

The CSPCA is looking wonderfully Halloween ready, and while we were there, we also got to meet some of their adorable puppies!

Part 2: Decorations That Look Like Toys

To us, Halloween decorations are spooky. To your pet, they can look like something excellent to chew on!

🕯️ Candles – curious noses and wagging tails can easily knock them over, causing burns or fires.

🕸️ Fake cobwebs & small decorations – these can be tempting to chew and may cause choking or intestinal problems if swallowed.

💡 Electrical cables & lights – keep wires safely out of reach, especially if you have a puppy or kitten who thinks everything is a chew toy.

🎭 Costumes – not every pet enjoys dressing up. If your pet looks uncomfortable, stressed or restricted, let them go as themselves!

Our tip: Before putting up your decorations, get down to your pet's eye level. If it looks chewable from there, move it!

Part 1: The Treat Bowl of Doom

For us, Halloween means treats. For pets, some of those treats can mean a trip to the vet!

🚫 Chocolate – even small amounts can be dangerous, particularly dark chocolate.

🚫 Sugar-free sweets & gum – these can contain xylitol, which is highly toxic to dogs.

🚫 Grapes & raisins – sometimes found in Halloween treats and snacks, and potentially toxic to dogs.

🚫 Alcohol – keep drinks well away from curious noses and paws.

🐾 Our tip: Keep the human treats in a cupboard, not on the coffee table. Your dog may have excellent manners… until they smell chocolate!

If your pet has eaten something they shouldn’t, contact your vet promptly rather than waiting for symptoms to appear.

The newest member of the Scoil Naomh Eltin team in Kinsale, Seán will be their new school wellbeing dog, helping create a calm, nurturing and inclusive environment for the children. 💚
