☘️ What. An. Event!

🤭 Excuse the punctuation, but when we founded the Irish Society of Veterinary Dermatology, it was simply for the love of derm.

🔬 and I were blown away by just how many of you share that love, making sure that the Inaugural Conference was brimming and bustling!

📣 Big thanks also to our phenomenal speaker Tim Nuttall, who had us laughing, in tears, challenging us to deeply think about the decisions we make every day in practice.

🏆 Cannot wait to see you all for next year's Conference as we drive on dermatology in Ireland!

💊 Cyclosporin is an amazing medicine, with comparable effects to steroids but a much safer long-term usage profile

I was delighted to be invited to speak at the London Vet Show 🎤

This was my first time attending this truly international conference, and it was great to speak about something I am passionate about - dermatology! 🥳

So many interesting people in our profession, and great to see just how hard we are all working to give our animals the best possible life! 🐾

Really good to catch up with old friends, colleagues and meet some new people as well! 🙏

🎙️ I was honoured to be invited to speak at Ireland's veterinary conference this month.

📈 Dermatology constitutes a large percentage of small animal consultations, and the focus was on the approach to alopecia (loss of hair) in dogs and cats.

🙋🏽 It was a fantastic event with really knowledgeable and inquisitive delegates!

🦊 Did you know the word alopecia comes from the greek term for fox mange? Always make sure to rule out parasites if focal/multifocal alopecia.

🍯 Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common hormone disorders diagnosed in cats.

💉 Up until recently the most effective treatment was insulin administered by injection beneath the skin, in most instances by the owner every 12 hours.

🥣 A novel treatment is available to treat diabetes mellitus in cats, in the form of a syrup administered once daily.

🚫 There's so much discourse at the moment regarding Britain's recent decision to add the XL bully to their list of restricted breeds.

🔒 Breed specific legislation (BSL) is generally implemented in the hope of reducing injury to people. In some instances to other animals (such as livestock).

🔃 However BSL remains a contested topic, with most charities and veterinary representative associations calling for reforms to dog control legislation.
