Yesterday, BAWA was called to help this dog, found with her young puppy and a wire snare cutting painfully into her paw. BAWA rushed to the remote location, managed to remove the snare which was cutting deeply in to her leg and brought her (along with her puppy) in for urgent treatment.

Snares and wildlife traps cause horrific suffering. In this case, it was unclear whether the trap had been set for wildlife or connected to dog meat trading activities - it appears similar to a porcupine snare - but whatever its purpose, the result was the same: an animal who could lose a foot and die without help.

These traps do not discriminate. They injure and kill wildlife, community animals, and beloved dogs alike.

Please help us help this lovely young dog and her puppy - please support BAWA’s rescue and emergency response work.

Wonderful news - Prince has been reunited with his family.

His real name was Mikki, so now he is Prince Mikki.

Prince Mikki had been missing for weeks. His family searched everywhere, unaware that he had suffered a terrible accident and ended up kilometres from home, badly injured and fighting for his life.

Thanks to emergency treatment, and surgery, Mikki survived. And today, the happiest part of his story has come true — he’s back where he belongs.

Thank you to everyone who shared his story, to Central Vet Clinic for his care, and to all who support BAWA’s rescue work.

Welcome home, Prince Mikki. ❤️🐾

𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗔 – 𝗔𝗡 𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗧𝗢 𝗨𝗦 𝗔𝗟𝗟

A few months ago, BAWA rescued Anita.

She had devastating injuries. Her front right leg had to be amputated, and her back right leg needed complex surgery involving a bone plate.

At the time, we did not know whether she could survive, or whether she would ever have the chance to live a healthy life free from pain and fear. The veterinarians gave her a 50-50 chance.

But Anita was only 10 months old. And despite the pain she must have been in, she kept wagging her tail and giving love to everyone who met her.

Months later, Anita has finally been released from the clinic and is now being cared for by BAWA.

She is a beautiful, loving young dog. But her treatment and ongoing rehabilitation have already cost more than $3,000 – money we simply do not have – and her journey is far from over.

Do we regret saving her? No. Never.

Anita inspires all of us. She reminds us that no matter what we have been through, no matter what adversity we have faced, it is still possible to keep an open heart.

But stories like Anita’s also remind us of the reality animal welfare organisations face every day. Every rescue requires funding, space, medical care, rehabilitation, and long-term commitment.

When you support BAWA, you help make these difficult choices possible. You help dogs like Anita get a second chance when many would have been given none.

Because every life matters.

But saving lives takes all of us. ❤️

⚠️ COMMUNITY ALERT – DOGS POISONED - BE CAREFUL ⚠️

We have received a report that two dogs were found poisoned near the rice fields in Lodtunduh, Ubud.

With recent reports of poison being found in different parts of Bali, we urge all dog owners to be extra vigilant when walking their pets. Please do not allow dogs to eat or pick up anything from the ground, and keep them closely supervised outdoors. Some of these newer poisons are very fast acting and for some there is no antidote.

Poisoning causes immense suffering and is one of the cruellest ways an animal can die. These two beautiful Bali dogs did not deserve that - no animals do.

BAWA is investigating this report and working with the local community to understand what happened and why.

Please share this warning to help keep Bali's animals safe.

Sanur Kauh, A Decade of One Health in Action ❤️🐾

We're proud to see Program Dharma continuing strong today in Sanur Kauh, thanks to the commitment of the village, and the support of the Animal Husbandry Department of Denpasar, who continue to encourage and strengthen the One Health approach.

Just this past Saturday, working together with the Agriculture department of Denpasar and the village of Sanur Kauh, we were able to:

• Sterilize 28 more dogs
• Vaccinate 73 animals against rabies

These numbers represent more than procedures — they represent an investment in long-term solutions. Through sterilization, rabies vaccination, and education, we can effectively manage dog populations, protect public health, improve animal welfare, and help create a safer Bali for all.

We extend our sincere thanks to Perbekel Desa Sanur Kauh, Bapak I Made Ada, and Kepala Dinas Pertanian Kota Denpasar, Bapak Ir. Anak Agung Gde Bayu Brahmasta, for their continued commitment to humane dog population management, rabies prevention, and the One Health approach.

Desa Sanur Kauh continues to show what is possible when a community chooses collaboration, responsibility, and prevention.

Together, we are building a safer, healthier Bali for all. ❤️

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 ❤️

In Kintamani and Batur, families are lining up with their beloved dogs to protect them from rabies. They arrive with gratitude – knowing that BAWA, FOUR PAWS , the Bangli Government, and local veterinary partners are working together to protect the health of their animals, their families, and their communities.

In recent weeks, more than 750 animals have been vaccinated against rabies in the Kintamani area, with more still to come.

But these visits do more than prevent disease.

They give BAWA’s One Health team the chance to speak directly with communities about responsible dog care, why dogs may bite, what to do after a bite, and why vaccination is the most effective way to keep villages safe and rabies-free.

Please help BAWA continue this life-saving work across Bali.

Rat poison has reportedly been distributed in a Bali community, and one puppy has already died. Another was rescued just in time.

These blue cubes are rat poison. According to reports received by BAWA, they were distributed with the intention of killing puppies and dogs considered a “nuisance.”

This is not population control. This is cruelty.

Poisoning dogs is not only inhumane, it is also dangerous for other animals, children, and the wider community.

BAWA will be taking this matter to the local government and relevant authorities to address this cruel and dangerous attempt to control dog populations.

We already have more than 400 dogs in our care, and it is extremely difficult to find loving homes for them. But when puppies are being poisoned, how can we look away?

We urgently need your help.

If you live in Bali, please consider adopting or fostering this sweet rescued puppy. By opening your home to one dog, you help us make space to save another.

If you see blue cubes like these, please do not touch them. Keep children and animals away, and contact BAWA or local authorities immediately.

Please contact BAWA if you can adopt, foster, or support our emergency rescue work.

𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗘

Yesterday evening, BAWA received a heartbreaking report.

A young dog had been found on the street in horrific condition. One of his feet was severely injured, and he had deep wounds across his body.

BAWA rushed to the location and brought him immediately to Central Vet, where he received pain relief, urgent care, and blood tests. He now needs surgery to amputate the damaged part of his leg.

His wounds suggest he may have been beaten, and his leg injury appears consistent with being run over.

It is hard not to feel angry.

How could anyone leave this beautiful 2-year-old Kintamani heritage dog on the street to suffer like this? How can anyone treat any animal this way?

There is a possibility that Prince was lost, and that his family does not know he was injured. We hope that is the case.

If anyone recognises this dog, now named Prince, or knows who he belongs to, please contact BAWA.

But right now, Prince needs urgent help.

But BAWA is in crisis. We are overwhelmed with emergency cases. Our shelters are full, veterinary costs are rising, and more animals are arriving with nowhere else to go.

We simply cannot keep taking in cases like Prince without urgent support.

But how could we leave him there?

Prince needs us now – and so do so many others.

And we need you.

Please donate to BAWA here: www.bawabali.com/donate

Or donate directly to Central Vet Clinic under our account name “Yayasan BAWA”, with the reference PRINCE.

We really do need your help. We can’t do this without you.

Thank you
