I want to tell you the history of the discovery of this beautiful fish native to Kalimantan.
Around mid-2023, while I was fishing, I saw a unique fish that I had never seen before.
I didn't manage to capture it, so I couldn't take any photos or videos.
With high curiosity, I tried asking in the Facebook group To ask about the fish I found. Since I don't have any photos or videos, I just made a post with a text that tells about the characteristics of this fish.
Wow. I was the butt of jokes in that post.
At that time I told that I met a fish with a shape like Nemacheilus but has a color like the Kuhli loach fish.
Some netizens mocked me, one of them by sending a photo of a snake with striped colors.
A few days later, I managed to catch 1 of those fish. I was very satisfied.
Finally I can show photos and videos of the fish as proof that what I said is not nonsense.
At that time, I offered it to anyone who was willing to research it further. I was ready to send specimens for research. I am also looking for the contact of the National Research Agency, (BRIN).
My curiosity was not satisfied, I contacted several people who I considered fish experts. Initially this fish was said to be the same as the one caught in West Kalimantan, namely Kapuasia maculiceps. I was given a journal and from there I saw some pictures and descriptions of the fish.
I think the fish I encountered was very different from Kapuasia maculiceps. I still stand by my opinion, that this fish is different.
Finally I got a message to send photos and videos, also some fish as specimens to be sent to Singapore.
I put my name down, and I offer specimens for free.
And at the end of 2024, namely on December 2, 2024, the scientific journal was published with the scientific name Kapuasia falaris Previously I thought this was a type of schistura sp.
In the journal, my name is listed as the specimen provider.Even though it is not according to my wishes, I feel quite proud, because I have contributed to knowledge.
