Afternoon walk time with our boarding dogs. 🐾

At Eko Crown Dog Training, dogs staying with us don’t spend their day only in the kennel.
They are given time to step outside, enjoy calm walks around the neighborhood, and explore the open field nearby.

These simple routines help them stay active, relaxed, and mentally engaged during their stay.

“Stay” is not about freezing your dog in place.
It’s about building emotional stability.

When your dog learns that the reward comes to them — not from breaking position — they develop patience, focus, and true self-control.

That foundation allows them to:
✔ Stay longer
✔ Remain steady in new environments
✔ Ignore distractions
✔ Wait calmly until released

Training in real-life environments isn’t just increasing difficulty.
It confirms that your dog truly understands the command.

Because obedience is not about control.
It’s about clarity, confidence, and trust.

If you’re ready to build a calm and reliable companion —
Eko Crown Dog Training can guide you every step of the way.

Teaching a reliable stay is less about duration and more about clarity.
Key principle: the reward must come to the dog, not the dog going to the reward.
How to implement:
1. Put your dog in a sit or down.
2. Give your stay cue once.
3. Take a small step away.
4. Return to your dog while they are still holding position.
5. Deliver the reward directly to their mouth level without encouraging movement.

Repeat this many times before increasing distance or duration.

Why this works:
✔️ Reinforces that staying put is the behavior being rewarded
✔️ Prevents accidental reinforcement of breaking position
✔️ Builds impulse control and confidence
✔️ Creates a dog that waits instead of anticipates release

⚠️ Common mistake: calling the dog to you for the reward: this teaches them that breaking stay is part of the exercise.

Consistency here is what creates a calm, stable stay you can rely on in real life.

Want structured guidance so you don’t accidentally reinforce the wrong behavior?
