One billion reasons why you should consume white meats (rabbits)
While discussing with a friend a few days ago on the consumption of meats, she persistently told me she preferred chicken to rabbit meat. We all have our preferences. But why do I advice we go for the rabbit meat?
Rabbit meat is classified as a game meat and because of that, we are not much interested in the health benefit the meat provides. Let's compare this meat to the red meat in order to know more about it:
The rabbit meat is made up of the highest percentage of digestible proteins and has the lowest amount of fats compared to other meats. Though low in fat, the rabbit meat is still rich in healthy fats like polyunsaturated fats and monounsaturated fats. It has fewer calories than chicken and has less cholesterol than any other commonly consumed meats like pork, beef and chicken.
Concerning vitamins and minerals, the meat contains vitamins B12 and E and has a higher concentration of most minerals like phosphorous and calcium that contribute greatly in the building of strong and healthy bones. It is rich in niacin which helps in the conversion of carbs to energy. Note that the rabbit meat as compared to other meats is lower in sodium, making the meat to be very appealing and attractive to people with high blood pressure.
The popularity of the meat has grown recently and as a result, those rearing the rabbits have improved it’s diet making the nutritional properties of rabbit meat even better. The feed used in raising this animal are high in polyunsaturated fatty acids, providing higher levels of vitamin E and increasing the amount of selenium found within their food. Selenium is good both for rabbits and men in the sense that it can help guard against the hardening of arteries, stomach, lung, prostate and skin cancers. Generaly, the red meat increases the risk of cancers like colon, re**um and gastric cancer. The consumption of rabbits could help guard against these cancers too. Chiambah
