Vaccination time for Alfie
Hello, this is Alfie, now 12 weeks (4 weeks with us already). He is absolutely beautiful. 🐶
He’d had his first vax, a C3, at 7-ish weeks. A couple days ago (at 12 weeks) I took him for a 2nd C3 but the vet got a C5 ready and just went ahead before I had a chance to discuss the C3 to C5 change. All was good though, no post vax symptoms other than the expected, thankfully. I guess it’s ok since now he’s a bit more protected for the extra two health risks like kennel cough.
After this 2nd vax though, the vet said the 3rd vax (expected at 16 weeks) is OPTIONAL! Is this consistent with current recommendations, in others’ experience? If it’s optional, I’m inclined not to give Alfie the 3rd round of C3 for risks and costs.
However I have heard that maternal antibodies can render prepared vaccinations less effective up until 16 weeks, which would go against the vet’s advice in this case. You would think therefore the 16 week vax is the one they definitely SHOULD have! Not sure what to do here. Any one available to adopt him?
