I won a photoshoot with Andy Biggar back in March through a Kennel Club comp … I was going to cancel as it didn’t feel right without Sky: it’s a difficult adjustment not having her with me in everything I do .. but I decided to go in the end and make a mini break of it in North Wales with the Famous Five.

Finding a bijou little bothy on Air BnB that takes 5 well behaved Cockers made it possible it was a great little place straight out onto a small private paddock and a private little woodland walk .. perfect. Yogi, Boo & Juno haven’t stayed away with me before but they were so good .. my first try at Air BnB and I found a little gem!

They were a bit giddy so we practised our settle training - before they took over the bed 😆

I preplanned a trip to Talacre Beach and it didn’t disappoint … after our photo shoot we blew off the cobwebs here … fabulous!

I stopped at Wepre Park on the way back to give the dogs a dip in the beck … we dodged the park runners but Scout got one of the run officials a bit excited as she picked up a marker cone and bogged off with it 😂 I explained she’s a kleptomaniac she can’t help herself.

The park runners were very taken with my gang .. one lady commented on how lovely to see ‘proper cockers’ … obviously knows her cockers 🥰

My little angel rest in love and peace you are now free from the troubles of old age.

It has taken some time to post this as I am heartbroken and miss her so much.
By my side for thirteen and a half years, the reason I had the very best change of direction in life, just so I could spend more time with the sweetest little dog who I was besotted with from the moment she came home and into my life. Just a little dot, to make me smile and marvel at her amazing, sweet, clever, funny and very lovable little character. I watched her every move with love and pride.

She taught me so much about Working Cockers, forgave my many mistakes as I learned how to train her and she eventually became the most loyal and smart little gamefinder as we tramped through rain, snow, freezing cold, and glorious sunny days too, across all kinds of terrain … but most of all she was the most affectionate fun loving companion that stole my heart and went everywhere with me.

I will always carry you with me Sky … thank you for being the best little friend, the best mum and the best granny to your Wrensong crew.

A little update on Sky … now almost 13.5 years old and after recovering well from post operative cognitive disorder last year, she then was diagnosed with (open) Pyometra end of November. Medical management didn’t clear the infection so I made what felt like a difficult decision to put her under anaesthetic again, this time for ovariohysterectomy. I did things a bit differently - was there in a consult room with her as she came round from the anaesthetic so she knew I was there and in between waking kept looking up at me then settling on my knees again … I stayed with her 24/7 for a few days once at home before then starting to leave her for short periods as she recovered. She was back out walking with the others after 3 weeks recovery.

She recovered really well both physically and emotionally - no post op cog dysfunction this time other than a couple of times where she started to really stress pant at night, but I gave her meds straight away to calm her and it kept things settled. She is now eating well, sleeping and resting well, not stressing, running about on her daily walks … keeping up with 2 x hourly walks most days. She had polydipsia and Polyuria for quite a few weeks but that has also recently settled down. She’s a trooper and doing great now - still looking good and physically sound 💕

Her vulval tumour seems to be stable and she has a little stiffness lower lumbar but nothing major. Such a sweet soul and my little buddy … still enjoying life! Granny (and Great Granny) to lots of lovely pups passing on her lovely temperament to all 🥰

Happy 5th birthday to the wonderful Scout x Rebel litter. I hope all the pups are loving life and bringing as much joy to you as Juno does to me! She is amazing I love her so much super smart and very sweet and gentle … also quite bouncy and very energetic … she’s a very quick learner and loves any training I can make time for as well as a day out in the field beating. Happy birthday to all the gorgeous pups 💖
