All of this AND I still have to train dogs?! 😂

Turns out being a dog trainer and business owner is less of a job and more of a personality trait 🤣🐶

September brought an incredibly busy month for BMMDT! But we finally had consistent cooler weather, much happier dogs and plenty of new clients 🥹🧡

Monty and I had the best time at the Paws on the Mile event today! Thank you to everyone that came along, bought services, training equipment and treats. We’re so grateful for all your support 🧡

Monty very much enjoyed all his fuss and showing you exactly why you should “Be More Monty” - he’s sleeping off all the excitement now 🤭

You might hear dog trainers talking about a dog being “over threshold”.

But what does that actually mean? 👀

Think of your dog’s ability to think and learn as a bucket 🪣

When they’re calm, the bucket has plenty of space.

Then things start getting added:
🐶 Another dog 🚗 Traffic 👧 Children 🐿️ Squirrels 🔊 Loud noises 👃 Exciting smells

Eventually, the bucket gets full.

And when it overflows, your dog may bark, lunge, pull, freeze, run, jump or completely stop listening.

That’s not the moment to ask for a perfect “sit”.

Instead, we want to recognise the signs BEFORE the bucket overflows and create some distance or reduce the difficulty.

The goal isn’t to force your dog through overwhelming situations. The goal is to help them learn that they can cope.

3 dogs completed their ecollar conditioning this month and gained the freedom they deserve, with 3 more being conditioned already in September 🥹🙌🏼
