Apparently, I’m not who people think I am. And honestly? I’m tired of trying to be.
Lately I’ve been reflecting on identity: what people see, what I project, and the reality underneath it all.
I’ve been working on unmasking, embracing my chaos and being more authentic. So please don’t tell me I “mask well”. That shouldn’t be a compliment. It means I’ve learnt to dim my shine to fit someone else’s expectations.
So, here are 7 things people have been surprised to learn about me:
1. I HATE planning. I can do it (I do it for work constantly), but left to my own devices I want flexibility. No rigid schedules, no lists, no pressure. I want to go with the flow, change my mind and do all the things—or none of them.
2. Being an auntie is my calling. I adore my nieces, nephew and friends’ kids, but I absolutely don’t want my own. I love my space, my things and my sleep. I love being the fun auntie and then going home to my husband and dog. I feel completely fulfilled without being a mum.
3. I’m an extroverted introvert. I can be the life and soul of the party with the right people, but I “people out” quickly when the vibe isn’t right. Give me the chance and I can happily go days without speaking to anyone.
4. I got the hurty, accident-prone hypermobility—not the useful gymnastics kind. 😂 I love to dance, but my body regularly feels like it’s done 10 rounds with Tyson after doing absolutely nothing.
5. Yes, I love sleep. But my natural productivity window is very much NOT 9–5. Sometimes the housework gets done at 11pm. 🤷♀️
6. I LOVE data. I can work with it all day. But maths that isn’t statistics? Absolutely not. If the numbers don’t tell me a story, I’m not interested.
7. I have combined ADHD. Some people weren’t surprised; others were shocked. For me, the diagnosis has been incredibly validating. It explains a lot—including why I want approximately 47 hobbies at once… and somehow turned that into a business. 😂
I’m chaotic. I’m time-blind. I go on side quests. I’m impulsive and occasionally irrational.
But I’m also creative, productive, hard-working, fiercely loyal, and the person you can call when everything goes to s**t at 2am.
I’m learning that being different doesn’t make me less. Maybe it just means my version of “normal” looks different.
So tell me: what’s something people assume about you that couldn’t be further from the truth?
And what would happen if we spent less time trying to fit the mould—and more time figuring out what actually makes us happy? 💜
