Exciting news for pets and their owners in County Durham! 🐶🐱

Specialist physiotherapy and hydrotherapy services are now available at Wilson Veterinary Group in Bishop Auckland, helping dogs and cats recover from injury, improve mobility and enjoy a better quality of life.

The new rehabilitation service brings physiotherapy and hydrotherapy together under one roof - supporting pets recovering from surgery, soft tissue injuries and neurological conditions. It also provides treatment for older pets living with arthritis, as well as those needing support with weight management and fitness.

Hydrotherapy uses warm water and low-impact exercise to help pets build strength, improve mobility and regain confidence while reducing strain on painful joints and muscles.

The launch means local pet owners no longer need to travel long distances to access specialist rehabilitation services, with tailored treatment plans now available as part of their pet's ongoing veterinary care.

The team at Clevedale Vets Small Animal in Upleatham, East Cleveland has been praised by a grateful owner after saving the life of her young dog following a serious and potentially life-threatening emergency.

Bella, an English Bull Terrier aged almost two, was brought to the practice after becoming unwell, vomiting and showing a marked change in behaviour.

Bella was examined by Small Animal Clinical Director Nicole McKenzie who promptly admitted her for further and urgent investigation. Blood tests and an on-site ultrasound scan confirmed she had swallowed a toy containing string lodged in her digestive system.

The string had caused Bella's intestines to bunch together under tension, leading to punctures – a serious and potentially life-threatening condition requiring urgent treatment.

Foreign bodies such as string can cut through the intestines and cause septic peritonitis, a severe and potentially fatal abdominal infection if not treated quickly.

Recognising the urgency, Nicole and her colleague vet Camilla Corvino performed emergency surgery to save Bella. The complex procedure involved operating on both Bella’s stomach and intestines, successfully removing the string along with a 10cm section of damaged small intestine.

Following the procedure, Bella made an excellent recovery. After an overnight stay and a couple of days of strict rest at home, she was back to her happy, energetic self. Here she is pictured looking great with her owner Corrie (right) and Nicole McKenzie from Clevedale Vets (left).

Cases like Bella's highlight the importance of seeking veterinary advice promptly if a pet is showing signs that something isn't right. Symptoms such as vomiting, lethargy or changes in behaviour can sometimes indicate a serious underlying condition requiring urgent treatment.

We are incredibly proud of the expertise, teamwork and dedication shown by the Clevedale Vets team in helping to achieve such a positive outcome for Bella and her family.

🏳️‍🌈 VetPartners colleagues joined thousands of people at this year’s York Pride parade, celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and showing our support for equality, diversity and inclusion.

We were proud to sponsor this fantastic event, recognised as North Yorkshire’s largest celebration of the LGBTQ+ community. York Pride not only brings people together but also helps raise awareness of LGBTQ+ rights and promotes inclusivity across the region.

A team from our central support office in Clifton Moor, York, took part in the vibrant parade, while our festival stand welcomed visitors with games, prizes and a chance to design a free tote bag. We also invited donations to Vetlife, our chosen charity for 2026, which provides vital support to members of the veterinary community.

With more than 13,000 colleagues working across veterinary practices and animal healthcare businesses throughout the UK and Europe, we are committed to creating a diverse, inclusive and supportive workplace where everyone feels valued and respected.

Happy Pride Month to all who are celebrating! 🌈

Excitement is building as work is underway to transform a large industrial unit at Garenne Park, St Sampson, into a brand-new facility with 24-hour care for the patients of Isabelle Vets.

Designed to deliver the very highest standards of veterinary care, work will include six consulting rooms, four operating theatres, separate waiting areas for cats and dogs, 13 kennels and a 20-space cattery, as well as a CT scanner and dental X-ray facilities. Space has been allocated for an MRI – the first on the island for veterinary use.

As well as a major boost for pet owners, it will revolutionise the care they are able to provide for horses as owners will no longer have to transport their horses by ferry to the UK mainland for most equine services.

Clinical Director Doreen Munn-Litten said: “Caring for Guernsey’s animals has been at the heart of Isabelle Vets for more than a century, and this new development represents a major step forward for veterinary care on the island.”

The new facility is expected to open in January 2027 following completion of construction in December 2026.

These cute kittens, who have been named after Bridgerton characters, have found loving homes thanks to the caring team at Broughton Veterinary Group

They were born after a stray cat was handed into the practice's Lutterworth branch by someone who was concerned the grey tortoiseshell might be pregnant.

Just days later, she gave birth to Violet, Gregory, Daphne, Anthony and Benedict, who have now been rehomed by members of the vet practice team and their relatives.

Veterinary nurse Sarah Armstrong said the stray cat, who they christened Molly, was undernourished and too young to be having kittens, and it could have been a very different story if she hadn't been brought into the practice.

Sarah said: "Luckily, we've been able to give Molly and the kittens the best possible care and they have all thrived. Molly has done a great job raising her little family and we're so pleased they have all found their forever homes."

☀️ Temperatures are set to soar this Bank Holiday weekend, and while many of us will be enjoying the sunshine, the hot weather can pose serious risks to our pets.

Every year, our veterinary teams see cases of heatstroke and dehydration that can become life-threatening very quickly. Dogs, cats, rabbits and other small pets can all struggle in high temperatures, so it's important to take extra precautions to keep them safe.

🐾 Walk dogs during the cooler parts of the day
💧 Make sure pets always have access to fresh water
🌳 Provide plenty of shade and cool resting areas
🚗 Never leave pets in cars, conservatories or poorly ventilated spaces
🔥 Check pavements and artificial grass before walks to avoid burnt paws

Watch for signs of heatstroke, including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, wobbliness or collapse.

If you suspect your pet is suffering from heatstroke, move them somewhere cool, offer water and contact your veterinary practice immediately for advice.

Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine responsibly with your pets. ❤️

Dog owners are being urged to stay vigilant when walking their pets where adders may be active.

Cocker Spaniel Callie needed emergency treatment after being bitten by one of the poisonous snakes while being walked at Cannock Chase in Staffordshire. Her owner had chosen an area where the grass was shorter, away from the main heath, because she thought it would be safer but was horrified when her much-loved dog suddenly became ill.

She took Callie straight to E C Straiton & Partners , where it was discovered Callie had been bitten on her face by an adder. She was given anti-venom and supportive care for two days and has gone on to make a complete recovery.

Callie is pictured with vet Mark Mincher-Lockett, who treated her, and owners Jackie and Nigel Oliver.

Jackie said: "When we arrived at the vets, Mark came out to the car park to get Callie. He carried her inside and saved her life, and I’m so very grateful. I’ve been a client of the practice for around 50 years, and they’ve always given our pets exceptional care.

Would you know how to recognise the signs if your dog was bitten by an adder? You can find out more here https://www.vetpartners.co.uk/practice-news/vet-urges-dog-owners-to-watch-out-for-adders-after-pet-recovers-from-being-bitten/
