Some pups from the recent puppy party. Pups can join as soon as they have had their first inoculations, its free and pups can come to three sessions as long as they haven't been out walking. People often think they have an older dog so their pup doesn't need to come along but often pups behave totally different to another dog than the one they are used to at home. They learn how to be handled in the group and how to play with the pups, we can identify any problems and discuss housetraining, diet and exercise and neutering and training. These are on a Tuesday at 6.15 if you have a pup and wish to come along just call the practice. The puppy training groups are also on a Tuesday after the puppy party and details about this can be sent to you if you email jacqui out puppy trainer and behaviourist who runs both groups. Even at temperatures as low as 20°C (70°F) dogs are at risk of heat stroke.

This information is from the BVA regarding heat stress:

1. Heat Stress (Early Warning Signs)Physical Signs:
Heavy panting, excessive drooling/salivation, and seeking shade or water.
Behavioural: Restlessness, pacing, or reluctance to continue exercise.
What to do: Stop all exercise immediately, move to a cool, shaded area, and offer small amounts of room-temperature water.
2. Heat Exhaustion (Serious Symptoms)Physical Signs:
Noisy, distressed breathing; bright red or very pale gums.
Behavioural: Wobbling, stumbling, or uncoordinated movement.
What to do: Begin active cooling. Pour tepid (room temperature) water over the dog. Never use ice-cold water as it can cause shock. Contact your vet immediately.
3. Heat Stroke (Dire Medical Emergency)Physical Signs:
Vomiting, diarrhoea, thick, sticky saliva, glassy eyes.
Critical: Collapse, seizures, or unconsciousness.
What to do: "Wet then Vet." Pour room-temperature water over the dog to cool them down before and during transport to the nearest veterinary practice.
