Even at temperatures as low as 20°C (70°F) dogs are at risk of heat stroke.

This information is from the BVA regarding heat stress:

1. Heat Stress (Early Warning Signs)Physical Signs:
Heavy panting, excessive drooling/salivation, and seeking shade or water.
Behavioural: Restlessness, pacing, or reluctance to continue exercise.
What to do: Stop all exercise immediately, move to a cool, shaded area, and offer small amounts of room-temperature water.
2. Heat Exhaustion (Serious Symptoms)Physical Signs:
Noisy, distressed breathing; bright red or very pale gums.
Behavioural: Wobbling, stumbling, or uncoordinated movement.
What to do: Begin active cooling. Pour tepid (room temperature) water over the dog. Never use ice-cold water as it can cause shock. Contact your vet immediately.
3. Heat Stroke (Dire Medical Emergency)Physical Signs:
Vomiting, diarrhoea, thick, sticky saliva, glassy eyes.
Critical: Collapse, seizures, or unconsciousness.
What to do: "Wet then Vet." Pour room-temperature water over the dog to cool them down before and during transport to the nearest veterinary practice.

Vet Andrew, Nurse Eve and Receptionist Kate had the pleasure of meeting ‘The Dog Father’ Graeme Hall, star of ‘Dogs Behaving Badly’. Graeme is helping the Police Rural Crime Officers get the message across to dog owners the importance of keeping their dogs on leads near livestock. This is following some distressing fatal livestock attacks in West Devon.

Abi, one of our nurses, would like you to meet Flora, Clover and Stork 🐈‍⬛ 🐈 🐱 whom she has been fostering from the RSPCA. They are all now looking for their forever homes.

The babies, Clover (tortie girl) and Stork (b&w boy) are now 6 weeks old. They will be looking to go to their new homes in the next few weeks. They're very playful kittens and would need for them to go together.

Flora is mum to the babies, she has been fantastic. She purrs constantly and just wants to sit on my lap/ shoulders. She's so so affectionate. If anyone is looking for some companions please let me know!!

There is a £70 donation per cat to RSPCA. This covers neutering, flea and worm treatment and their initial vaccines. ❤️❤️

APHA have advised that with effect from 23rd April 2026, the EU will not accept pets travelling under an EU Passport unless the owner’s main residence is in the EU. This means that pets will now need an Animal Health Certificate.

Sadly we had a deceased male entire ginger long haired cat bought in last night by Crapstone main road. He is microchipped but unfortunately not registered. Please contact us if you think he is yours.
