๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿพ Autumn Hazards: Keep Your Pets Safe! ๐ŸŽƒ

As the leaves fall and the nights draw in, there are a few seasonal hazards to watch out for when out and about with your pets!
๐Ÿ„โ€๐ŸŸซConkers and acorns can cause illness and blockages, while some wild mushrooms and antifreeze can be highly toxic.
๐ŸFallen leaves can also hide hazards, so keep curious noses away from anything suspicious.
๐ŸซKeep Halloween sweets and chocolate well out of reach as these can be toxic to dogs, and watch out for mouldy fallen fruit from trees, which can cause serious illness if eaten.
If you think your pet has eaten something potentially harmful, contact your vet immediately, donโ€™t wait for symptoms to appear. Stay safe and enjoy the autumn walks! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

Today was an absolutely incredible day. We received a call from our neighbours at Tweed House Vets with an emergency they urgently needed help with.

Within seconds, our Head Nurse, Liam, ran outside, jumped into the delivery van that had just arrived, and asked the driver to get him to Tweed House as fast as legally possible!

โ€‹Upon arrival, he worked alongside the fantastic staff at Tweed House to help stabilise the patient, and together they managed to get the dog safely to us for emergency surgery. Thanks to the seamless teamworkโ€”not only within our own clinic but with our neighbouring practiceโ€”we managed to save this absolutely beautiful dog, who had suffered a very serious cut to a major artery. It was an intense, focused effort from everyone involved in the theatre.

โ€‹It just goes to show that even though our practices have different names over the door, we are all one big veterinary family. We care so much about every single patient and will do absolutely anything we can to save them.

โ€‹A huge thank you to Tweed House for your amazing quick thinking, and an equally massive thank you to our team here at Pudsey for not asking questions and just jumping straight into the job that needed doing.

Days like today make me burst with pride to work with, and alongside, such incredible people.

As some of you may have noticed, an auction sign has appeared on the side of our Pudsey branch. We would just like to reassure you that this is regarding the property upstairs and our business will be unaffected by it - we are going nowhere! ๐Ÿพ

Itโ€™s October! And this month is Black Cat Awareness Month ๐Ÿˆโ€โฌ›

Did you know that fully black cats are statistically the least likely colour of cat to be adopted from shelters? This is due to a number of reasons.

๐Ÿพ There are old superstitions tying them to bad luck.
๐Ÿพ Their dark coats blend in with the shadows at the shelters, making them harder to catch the eye of visitors.
๐Ÿพ Black is a dominant genetic trait, meaning their population rises quicker then they can be adopted.

In support of this month we would love to see all of your wonderful black kitties in the comments! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป

We would like to wish a huge congratulations to our amazing Meg, who has officially qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse! ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€โš•๏ธ๐Ÿฉบ

After years of hard work, studying, exams, practical training, early mornings, long days and countless hours caring for our patients, youโ€™ve done it! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐ŸŽ“

โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿพ Warm Weather Reminder for Pet Owners! ๐Ÿพโ˜€๏ธ

As temperatures rise, it is important to remember that our pets can feel the heat too. Here are a few simple ways to help keep them safe and comfortable:

๐Ÿ’ง Make sure fresh, clean water is always available
๐ŸŒณ Provide plenty of shade and a cool place to rest
๐Ÿš— Never leave your pet in a parked car, even for a few minutes
๐Ÿ• Walk dogs during the cooler parts of the day and avoid hot pavements
๐Ÿ”ฅ Remember: if the pavement is too hot for your hand, itโ€™s too hot for their paws
๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ Keep an eye out for signs of heatstroke, such as excessive panting, drooling, weakness, confusion or collapse.

If youโ€™re worried your pet may be suffering in the heat, please contact your vet straight away!

Also just a reminder: if you are booked in for an appointment with us today but would prefer to move to a cooler day please just give us a call and we will be happy to assist!

Stay cool and let's keep our furry friends safe! โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

โ˜€๏ธโ€ผ๏ธ HOT WEATHER ALERT โ€ผ๏ธโ˜€๏ธ

With the hot weather today, please make sure to take extra care when bringing your pets to appointments. If possible, travel in an air-conditioned vehicle and avoid walking dogs to the practice during the hottest parts of the day.

For cats travelling in carriers, a non-toxic cooling mat or a towel wrapped non-toxic ice pack placed in the bottom of the carrier can help keep them more comfortable on the journey.

If you would prefer to rearrange a routine appointment for a cooler day, please give us a call and we will be happy to help!
