Sam and Lil are here to help raise awareness that, although reptiles make fascinating pets, they also have very specific care needs that can vary hugely between species.

Things like the right temperature and humidity, suitable UVB lighting, a species-appropriate diet and plenty of opportunities to hide and explore can all play an important part in keeping them healthy.

That’s why doing your research and creating the right environment is so important for any reptile owner.

Now it’s your turn. Share a photo of your reptile in the comments!

Supporting mental wellbeing is about more than formal resources. It’s also about creating a workplace where people feel valued, appreciated and comfortable talking to one another.

At Watkins + Tasker Vets, we encourage those everyday moments of support too.

Across our practices, our team notice boards give colleagues a space to leave kind, encouraging and appreciative messages for each other. It might be a thank you for helping during a busy day, recognition for someone’s hard work, or simply a few supportive words.

Those small gestures can make a real difference.

By encouraging open conversations, recognising each other’s efforts and reducing the stigma around asking for help, we hope to create a workplace where everyone feels safe and supported.

Looking after each other helps us continue providing the highest standard of care for our patients and their owners.

This World Mental Health Day, we’re celebrating the positive impact pets can have on our everyday lives.

Whether it’s a dog encouraging us out for a walk, a cat curling up beside us after a long day, or a small pet making us smile with their unique personality, animals can bring comfort, routine, companionship and plenty of happy moments.

We’d love to hear about a moment when your pet made you smile, helped you feel better or simply brightened your day.

For Mental Health Awareness Day, we’re highlighting the support available to our team here at Watkins + Tasker Vets.

Working in veterinary practice can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be emotionally and physically demanding. That’s why we’re fortunate to have three trained Mental Health First Aiders within our team: Claire, Faye and Judi.

They’re here to:

👉 Offer a confidential, non-judgemental listening ear

👉 Provide initial support when someone is struggling

👉 Help colleagues find the most appropriate resources if further support is needed

Our team also has access to a confidential Employee Assistance Programme, which provides professional advice, counselling and practical support, as well as specialist resources such as Vetlife.

Mental wellbeing is an ongoing priority for us, and we want everyone in our team to know that support is there when they need it.
