🐾A little reminder about matted coats🐶
Recently ive had quite a few very matted dogs/cats coming into the salon, including some who have unfortunately returned matted again after being previously clipped short and advice being ignored on how to prevent this, so here is a reminder about why regular grooming is so important!
When a coat becomes heavily matted, it can pull tightly on the skin, trap moisture, dirt and debris! In more severe cases matting can also cause bruising and skin irritation where there is a lack of blood circulation. This is extremely uncomfortable for your dog!
Unfortunately, once a coat reaches a certain stage, brushing it out isn’t the kindest option and a lot of times not even possible. Trying to remove severe matting can be painful and may cause unnecessary stress which is why the safest and most comfortable option for your pet is to clip the coat short and start fresh✂️
This is not directed at pets who have the ‘odd’ mat in places like armpits/groin.
Remember, your pet’s comfort comes above any hairstyle you have requested. Shave downs are not pretty, this is just something you will have to accept in order for your pets well being. Don’t panic - it will grow back faster than you think!
Please don’t ever feel embarrassed or worried about bringing your matted pet to me, there is absolutely no judgment as I know things can happen, life can get in the way and sometimes matting can happen quicker than expected! My priority is to help your pet become comfortable and feeling happy again🥰
However, repeated severe matting is not something that should become normal in your pet’s grooming routine. It is incredibly uncomfortable for your pet and gives them a bad impression of grooming, all while being frustrating for myself aswell.
If you are unsure whether your pets coat is starting to get matted, please message me! I am always happy to advise on brushing/proper techniques, grooming frequency/schedules and what you can be doing at home to prevent this happening again!
- if your pet is matted currently, please don’t worry! Message me and I will get a solution for you🐱🐩
Thankyou to all my lovely clients for trusting me with your pets, I love you all💕
