How do you stop buying your dog every toy you see? Asking for a friend 🐶

12/10/2026

Poor Bodie was seriously unwell when she arrived at our Vets Now Glasgow Hospital, suffering from vomiting, loss of appetite and very low energy.

After carrying out tests, our team discovered that Bodie had developed diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a life-threatening complication of diabetes, as well as pneumonia. 😥

But what exactly is diabetic ketoacidosis?

DKA occurs when the body doesn't have enough insulin to use glucose for energy. Instead, it begins breaking down fat, producing substances called ketones. When these build up in the blood, they can make it dangerously acidic.

Signs can include vomiting, loss of appetite, extreme tiredness and dehydration. It's a serious condition that requires urgent veterinary treatment.

Bodie spent five days in intensive care, receiving round-the-clock care from our Internal Medicine, Emergency and Critical Care, and Diagnostic teams.

Thankfully, we're delighted to share that Bodie is now back home and feeling much more like herself! ❤️

Her owners are learning how to manage her diabetes with insulin injections, with continued support from our Internal Medicine team.

Well done, Bodie! 🐾

We are aware of comments circulating online regarding a call made to our clinic over the Easter weekend. Providing a professional and caring service is extremely important to us and we take any allegations of substandard delivery of care to animals or their owners very seriously. While we understand that this has been particularly upsetting for many people on social media, we cannot comment publicly on individual cases but please be assured that our customer care team has reached out and will be responding further to the pet owner directly to better understand what has happened.
